Short focal lengths (wide FOV) emphasize the
distortions of perspective, making objects seem
in-depth, looming toward the viewer.
Long focal lengths (narrow FOV) reduce
perspective distortion, ma king objects appear
flattened and parallel to the viewer .

The perspec tive associated with 50 mm lenses

widely used for snapshots, news photos, cinema,

Dif fer ences B et ween Camer a Objects
and R eal-World Cameras
Many other controls on real-world cameras (such
as those for focusing a lens, and advancing film)
aren’t needed for computer rendering and have no
counterpart in the camera objects.
The program does have counterparts for the
camera movements used in movie making , such
as truck, dolly, and pan. See Camera Viewpor t
Controls (page 3–745).
Procedure
To match a real-world camera frame propor tion:
1.
Choose Rendering > Render.
The Render Scene dialog is displayed.
2. In the Output Size group, click the arrow to
display the list of real world output sizes.
3. Selectthetypeyouwant(bothfilmandvideo
output sizes are available).
4. Right-click the Camera viewport label, and
turn on Show Safe Frame.
TheSafeFrameproportionswillmatchthoseof
the selected output size.

Procedures
To v iew a wider ar ea, do either of the following:
Use the FOV spinner to increase the camera’s
field of view.
Clickabuttonwithashorterfocallength.Use
theLensspinnertogivethefocallengthavalue
other than the preset "stock" values on the
buttons.
To view a narrower area, do either of the following:
Change the FOV parameter to decrease the
camera’s field of view.
Clickabuttonwithalongerfocallength.Use
the Lens par ameter to give the focal leng th a
value other than the preset "stock" values on
the buttons.
