A Free Linear light emits light from a line, like a
fluorescenttube.Youcansetthelightdistribution;
this lig ht has two typ es of distribution, with
corresponding icons. A free linear light has no
target object. You use transforms to aim the light.

To create a Free Linear light:
1. OntheCreatepanel,clickLights.
2. Choose Photometric from the drop-down list.
(Standard is the def
ault.)
3. IntheObjectTypero
llout, click Free Linear.
4. Click the viewport location where you want the
light to be.
The lig ht is now part of the scene. It points away
from you in the viewport you clicked.
5. Set the creation parameters.
Yo u c a n position the light (page 2–1282) and
adjust its direction with the transform tools.
You can also adjust the lig ht’s position with the
Place Highlight (page 1–467) command.
To adjust the light:
1.
Select the lig ht.
2. On the Main toolbar, click Move. Drag
the selection to position the light.
3. On the Main toolbar, click Rotate. Drag
the selection to adjust the light.
Tip: You can also adjust the lig ht’s position w ith
the Place Highlight (page 1 –467) command.

area, like a skylight. You can set the light
distribution;thislighthastwotypesof
distribution, with corresponding icons. A target
area light uses a target object to aim the light.
Note: WhenyouaddaTargetArealight,the
software automatically assigns a Look At controller
(page 2–344) to it, with the light’s target object
assigned as the Look At target. You can use the
controller settings on the Motion panel to assig n
any other object in the scene as the Look At target.
