584 Chapter 12: Animation
a biped is selected while you open the Mixer, but
you’ll probably need more to hold all the motions
you want to use with your mixed objects.
WhenyouopentheMixerwhileabipedis
selected, a
trackgroup (page 3–1118)
,acliptrack,
and a
balance track (page 3–1008)
are assigned to
that biped. If a non-biped object is selected, the
Mixer opens empty.

Adding and Merging Non-Biped
Object to a M ix
Whenyouaddanon-bipedobjecttoamix,
its keyable controllers are replaced by mixer
controllers, which store the object’s original
animationaswellastheMixeranimation.
If you merge a non-biped object containing Mixer
controllers into a new scene, it comes in with its

without any mixed animation.
Types of Cl ip Tr acks
There are two types of tracks to which you can add
clips:
Layer—Atrackforaseriesofmotionsthatdo
not need t ransitions between them. By default, a
Layer track is created for a biped when you open
the Mixer.
Layer track
Transi ti on—A tall track with room for two rows
of clips. You can put one motion file on the to p
tier and another on the bottom, and place a
transition in the area where the two clips overlap.
Transitions on these tracks are similar to
Motion
Flow transitions (page 2–885)
between clips.
Transition track
Each biped in the Mixer is automat ically given a
balance track (page 3–1008)
, used for adjusting
balance between clips in Layer and Transition
tracks. Clips cannot be added to t he balance track.
Note: Balance tracks are only available for mixed
biped objects.
