Templates Rollout

The Templates rollout g ives you a list of material
typestochoosefrom.Atemplateissimplyaset
of preset para meters for the Physical Qua lities
rollout, which approximates the kind of material
you want to create, and gives you a star ting point.
Once you choose a template, you can adjust its
settings and add
maps (page 2–1426)
to enhance
realism and improve the material’s appearance.
The templates do not affect the Diffuse Color on
the Physical Qualities rollout, only the numeric
settings.
Inter face
Template drop-down list—Chooses the kind of
material you are designing. Each template provides
preset values for the various material p arameters.
These are the material templates provided with
3ds Max. The purpose of most templates is clear,
so the table doesn’t comment on all of them.

Qualities rollout
When you create a new
Architectura l material
(page 2–1376)
or edit an exist ing one, the sett ings
on the Physical Qualities rollout are the ones you
are most likely to need to adjust.
Procedure
To match a materia l’s luminance to a light:
Wa rn in g: Only photometric lights give correc t
luminance. Also, the mental ray renderer disregards the
Emit Energy setting.
