To change a map’s strength:
•Adjustthemap’sAmountspinnerintheMaps
rollout.
Thematerial’ssampleslotreflectsthechange.
Note: Adjusting a map’s output (in the map’s
Output rollout) can also change the map’s
strength.
To move directly to an ancestor:
1.
Click the arrow to the right of the map’s
name
(page 2–1292)
field.
A drop-down list of ancestors is displayed.
2. Click a name in the Ancestor list.
With this l ist, you can skip intermediate levels
in the tree.
The Ancestor drop-down list shows only par t
of the tree. It does not show side branches and
siblings. To view these, use the
Material/Map
Navigator (page 2–1291)

To change a map type:
1.
At the level of a map, click the button labeled
Type below the Material Editor toolbar.
Amodal
Material/Map Browser (page 2–1256)
is displayed. If you were at a map, it lists only
maps (if you were at a material when you
clicked Type, the Browser lists only m aterials).
2. Choose a map type from the list, and then click
OK.
Ifyouchangeamaptypeandthenewmap
type can have component maps, a Replace Map
dialog is displayed. This dialog gives you a
choice between discarding the orig inal map or
usingitasacomponentmap.
Ifthenewmaptypedoesnothavecomponents,
it simply replaces the original map type.

button for each map type. Click this button to
selectabitmapfilestoredondiskortoselecta
procedural-map type (page 3–1091)
.Afteryou
select a map, its name and typ e appears on the
button. Use the check box to the left of the button
to turn the effect of the map off and on. When the
check box is off, the map is not computed and has
no effect in the renderer.
The Amount spinner determines the amount
that the map affects the material, expressed as a
percentage of full intensit y. For example, a diff use
map at 100% is completely opaque and covers the
basematerial.At50%,itissemi-transparentand
thebasematerial(thediffuse,ambient,andother
colors of the material without mapping) shows
through.
