Particle Age and Particle MBlur maps do not
preview in viewports.
Multiple Ma ps in V iewpor ts
Viewports c an display multiple maps. For multiple
map display, t he display driver must be
OpenGL
(page 3–884)
or
Direct3D (page 3–888)
.The
software display dr iver (page 3–884)
does not
support multiple map display.
The
composite map (page 2–1498)
and
mix map
(page 2–1499)
support multiple map display.
In addition, turning on Show Map In Viewport
at the top level of a
standard material (page
2–1309)
lets you view maps on both the diffuse
and opacity components (though not on other
mapped components).
Pr ocedur es
To view maps interactively:
1.
Select an object.
2. In the object’s creation par ameters, make sure
that Generate Mapping Co ords. is on. (If
this option isn’t enabled, the object can’t be
mapped.)
If the object type does not have a mapping
coordinates check box, apply a
UVW Map
(page 1–905)
modifier.
3. In the Material Editor, apply the mapped
material to the object.
4. Turn on Show Map In Viewport.
The map appears on objects assigned the
material in all shaded viewp or ts. Now when
you adjust a map, the v iewp orts update to
display the adjustments.

Turn off Show Map In Viewport.
The object is shaded but the map no longer
appears.
Show End R esult
Material Editor > Show End Result
Material Editor menu > Material menu > Show End Result
Show End Result lets you look at the material at the
level y ou’re on instead of looking at the end result
of all the other
maps (page 3–1062)
and sett ings.
When this button is off, the sample slot shows only
thecurrentlevelofthematerial.Thistoolisuseful
when you are working with
compound materials
(page 3–1016)
. It would be difficult to see exactly
what effect you’re creating on a particular level if
you didnt have the ability to turn off the display
of the other levels.
Go to Parent
MaterialEditor>GotoParent
Material Editor menu > N avigation menu > Go to Parent
Go To Parent moves up one level in the current
material.
This button is available only when you are not
at the top level of a
compound material (page
3–1016)
. You can tell you’re at the top level when
thisbuttonisunavailableandthenameintheedit
fieldmatchesthenameintheMaterialEditortitle
bar.
A typical situation is one in which you have a
material with a Diffuse map. The Material level is
the parent and the Diffuse map is the child. The
Go To Parent button becomes available at the level
of the Diffuse map.
