Material Editor > Put Material to Scene
Material Editor m enu > Material menu > Put to Scene
Put Material To Scene updates a material in the
scene after you edit the material. Put Material To
Scene is available only when:
Thematerialintheactivesampleslothasthe
samenameasamaterialinascene.
Thematerialintheactivesampleslotisnothot.
In other words, this command is intended to fit
into the o v erall sequence of handling materials:
You create a hot material either by applying it
to objects in the scene or by gett ing it from the
scene.
You make a copy of the material.
You make changes to the copy of the material.
You update the scene by putting the changed
material back into the scene.
Notes
If you apply a mapped material to a parametric
object whose Generate Mapping Coords
option is off, the software automatically turns
on mapping coordinates at render time. In
addition, if you apply a mapped material with
Show Map in Viewport active to an object, that
object’s Generate Mapping Coords option is
turned on if necessary.

w ith individual materials, so you can drag
mapped materials f rom the mo deless Browser
onto objects in your scene, and the mapping
appears in the view ports.
Procedure
To put a mater ial ba ck into a scene:
On the Material E ditor toolbar, click
Put
Material To Scene (page 2–1285)
.
The material in the active sample slot is now a
hot material (p age 3–1047)
.
Assign Materia l to Selection
Material Editor > Assign Material to Selection
Material Editor menu > Material menu > Assign to
Selection
Assign Material to Selection applies the material
intheactivesampleslottothecurrentlyselected
object or objects in the scene. At the same time,
thesampleslotbecomes
hot (page 3–1047)
.
If you apply a mapped material to a parametric
object whose Generate Mapping Coords option is
off, the software a utomatically turns on mapping

active to a parametric
object, that object’s Generate Mapping Coords

The Show Map In Viewport flag is saved with
individual materials, so when you drag mapped
materials f rom the modeless
Browser (page
2–1256)
onto objects in your scene, the mapping
appears in the viewports.
The Undo command works for material
assignment.
Procedure
