To crea te a D elegate helper o bject:
1.
OntheCreatepanel,clickHelpers.
2. Click Delegate. Drag in a viewport to set the
delegate position, and th
en drag vertically to
set the size.
Tip: Thedelegatealwayspoints"up"inthe
viewport you add it in. So if you want it to
point "forward," that i
s, toward the positive Y
directionintheWorldcoordinatesystem,you
should create it in the Top viewport.
To clone and scatter de
legates:
1.
Create a Crowd helper a
nd a Delegate helper.
2. Decide how to distr ibu
tethedelegateclones,
andcreateanobjecttodefinehowtheclones
aretobepositioned:agridobject,aprimitive
box or sphere, a shape
,oranyobjecttoserve
as a surface. Alternatively, you can choose to
distributeclonesinacircularareawithoutthe
use of a distributi
on object.
3. Select the Crowd ob
ject and access the Modify
panel.
4. Click the Scatter Objects button to open
the
Scatter Objects dialog (page 2–1040)
.
5. On the Clone tab, set the number of clones to
create, and select the object to clone.
6. Click Generate Clones.
This produces the specified number of clones
in the same location. To vary positions,
orientations, and/or sizes, proceed with the
following steps.
7. On the Position tab > Placement Relative To
Object group, choose a distribution option.
Click the None button, and then select the
distribution object you created earlier.
Alternatively, to distribute delegates in a
circular area, choose Placement In Area group
>InRadialAreaandsetacenterandradius.
8. Click Generate Locations.
This distributes the clones.
9. On the Rotat ion tab, choose which of the cloned
object’s local axes are to look forward and up .
Optionally, specify source and t arget objects
for the clones’ orientations, as well as limits for
randomized dev iations from the calculated
orientation.
10. Click Generate Orientations.
11. On the Scale tab, for each axis, specify Average,
Deviation, and, optionally, Same As settings
and a random seed.
12. Click G enerate Scales.
At this point, you’re basically finished.
Ho wever, to create a series of randomized
positions, orientations, and/or sizes for
clones, follow the next two steps and repeat as
necessar y.
13. On the A ll Ops, t urn on Positions, Rotations,
and/or Scales. To vary the randomized
positions, rotations, and/or sca les, turn on t he
corresponding Inc Seed check boxes.
14. Click the Scatter button.
Yo u c a n c o m b i n e t h e c l o n i n g , p o s i t i o n ,
rotation,andscalefunctionsinoneoperation
bysettingtheoptionsontheirrespectivetabs
w ithout clicking the Generate buttons, and then
using the A l l Ops tab to apply any or all scatter
operations simultaneously. Also, you can use
the All Ops tab > S elect Objects To Tr ansform
to specif y any objects to sc atter; not just clones.
