ABS
An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system that
allows the wheels on a motor vehicle to maintain tractive contact with the
road surface according to driver inputs while braking, preventing the wheels
from locking up (ceasing rotation) and avoiding uncontrolled skidding. It is
an automated system that uses the principles of threshold
braking and cadence braking which were practiced by skillful drivers with
previous generation braking systems. It does this at a much faster rate and
with better control than many drivers could manage.
An ABS warning lamp that is on usually means trouble and you need to pull
the code to figure out what is wrong. The ML609P provides convenient
service to read and erase codes for the ABS.
Read Codes
1. From Main Screen (Figure 2-2), use the UP/DOWN scroll button and
LEFT/RIGHT scroll button to select ABS and press the OK button.
2. Select Read codes from the diagnostic function list.
