Performance Steps
CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch the surface of the assemblies.
(1) With a lint-free cloth, wipe both sides of the horizontal and vertical arm assembly tracks.
Check for surface rust or pitting.
(2) Moderately apply grade-22 oil to the horizontal and vertical tracks, ensuring that no oil
seeps inside the assembly circuit and preventing oil from contacting the belt.
e. Reinstall cassette handler.
(1) Carefully return the cassette handler to its mounting position on the horizontal arm
assembly and tighten nuts securely.
(2) Remove red safety clamp.
(3) Restore the red safety button to ON position.
f. Turn ON the robotics controller power.
g. Return system to the Normal mode.
(1) Select Service from the Main Menu and enter.
(2) Select the F4 command.
(3) Select the F2 command and enter command string NM: enter.
(4) From Main Menu, select V for Verify library; check horizontal and vertical arm movement.
(5) Return to the PLAY mode to give system control back to the MC operator.
4. Clean VTRs following preventive maintenance checks and services task 113-575-3050.
a. From the computer terminal, enter the Service mode and Out all VTRs to Off-line (except for
the VTR on-air).
b. Turn OFF all VTR power switches (except for the VTR on-air).
c. From the cabinet's rear, slide out highest VTR shelf and remove VTR cover.
d. Lightly press a chamois, moistened with isopropyl alcohol or head cleaner, against the video
head drum and rotate the upper drum assembly slowly clockwise.
e. Clean stationary heads (audio, erase, and control track), rollers, capstan, and the pinch roller
with an isopropyl moistened chamois or swab.
f. Remove cleaning material debris with a dry chamois or swab.
g. Replace top cover and turn ON VTR power.
h. Place VTR switch in LOCAL, insert and PLAY a video test tape, and check for proper video and
audio levels through the monitor switcher.
i. EJECT test tape and return VTR switch to REMOTE.
j. Perform performance measure steps 4c through 4i on remaining VTRs.
k. Ensure that no side LEDs illuminate, an indication that a VTR is not fully locked forward.
l. From the computer terminal, return VTRs to On-line.
m. Release red safety switch.
n. Wait for staging time and check that the computer properly stages the next set of events to
ensure robotics correctly loads cassettes.
o. When the on-air VTR becomes free, perform steps outlined above on that VTR.
p. Before returning the system to on-line, check audio and video levels through the MC switcher
Preset and Program buses; adjust if necessary.
5. Target VTRs.
a. On Main Controller computer, select Service menu.
b. Highlight the first VTR.
c. Select F2 to Off-line the VTR; then select F1 to put it back On-line.
d. Answer the Do You Wish to Target this VTR? prompt with Y for yes.
e. Follow the prompts on the screen.
f. Do not install the targeting fixture until prompt to do so.
g. Perform targeting process for each VTR.
NOTE: All VTRs target during the Target the Entire System option. If there is not a full complement of
VTRs installed, move a VTR to the empty positions during the Target the Entire System process.
6. Annotate preventive maintenance checks and services performed on DD Form 314.
7. Initiate DA Form 2407 for any problem requiring further maintenance.
