MAINTAIN TELEVISION (TV) ROBOTICS
113-575-3055
Conditions: In a tactical or garrison environment, given an automated video library (with tape transports
and robotics) installed in a system with a video switcher, monitors, WFM, vectorscope, and associated
cabling. Materials required are a red safety clamp, targeting tape, video test tape, grease and oil
lubricants, canned air, general- purpose cleaning spray, paper towels, lint-free cloth, soft brush, cotton
swabs, chamois, lens tissue, isopropyl alcohol, head cleaner (such as xylene), vacuum, ladder, flashlight,
electronic equipment tool kit, DD Form 314, DA Form 2407, DA Pam 738-750, and manufacturers'
manuals.
Standards: The standards are met when the robotics system is clean, lubricated, and operating trouble-
free.
Performance Steps
1. Notify TV operations supervisor prior to the PMCS, to avoid on-air scheduling conflicts.
2. Clean and inspect the library cabinet and associated equipment.
a. Remove dust and dirt from cabinet topside and fan grids with a vacuum cleaner and brush.
b. Open rear doors; vacuum and clean all reachable surfaces.
NOTE: DO NOT inadvertently trip circuit breakers inside the cabinet.
c. Open front glass door and press the red safety switch, for the horizontal arm assembly to slide
down to cabinet's bottom.
d. Vacuum and wipe clean dust and dirt from all surfaces without disturbing the VTR switch
positions.
e. Clean light curtain surfaces with a soft brush or canned air; test for proper operation.
NOTE: The bottom red LEDs will illuminate indicating obstruction of the light curtain.
f. Release the red safety button, close front doors, and check for any LED alarms.
g. On the master control (MC) computer terminal, run Verify Program to check arm movement and
operation.
3. Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and operational inspection of the horizontal and vertical arm
assemblies and cassette handler to ensure smooth movement of the cassette handler.
a. Recognize symptoms requiring this performance measure.
(1) Cassette handler acts sluggish, jerks, or seems disoriented or lost during movement.
(2) Main controller indicates a brief light curtain error or interruption.
b. Perform setup procedures.
(1) Place system off-line.
(2) Operate system in the Manual mode.
( a) Select Service from the Main Menu and enter.
( b) Select the F4 command.
( c) Select the F2 command and enter command string: MM: enter.
c. Remove cassette handler.
(1) Open front cabinet doors and press the red all-stop button for the arm assembly to slide to
the cabinet's bottom.
(2) Open the rear cabinet door and turn OFF power to the controller.
(3) Install the red safety clamp on the vertical arm assembly above the horizontal assembly.
(4) Remove the two nuts holding the cassette handler cassette and lift straight upward. Place
cassette handler on a clean work area and perform performance measure following
service manual.
d. Perform arm assembly maintenance.
