PERFORM STUDIO CAMERA SETUP
113-575-8020
Conditions: Performed in a visual information (VI) facility with a video switcher with color cameras and
camera control units (CCUs); setup cameras for a production or live shoot. The cameras have focus and
zoom controls and viewfinders. Studio key light (3200 Kelvin) is available. Given WFM, vectorscope,
color TV monitor, easel stand or light box, reflectance chart, registration chart, white balance chart, gray
scale chart, DA Form 2407, system block diagrams, DA Pam 738-750, and manufacturers' manuals.
Standards: The standards are met when the cameras are color balanced and matched on the split
screen.
Performance Measures Results
1. Turn ON all equipment. Allow the camera time to stabilize in the PREHEAT mode. P F
NOTE: Correct problem(s) by referring to the appropriate manufacturer's manual and system
block diagrams.
2. Turn ON the necessary studio lighting banks. Studio lighting is approximately 150 foot-
candles with 3200 Kelvin key light.
P F
3. Switch the CCU to the COLOR BARS position. Observe the WFM and vectorscope for
correct signal amplitude.
P F
4. Adjust the viewfinder CONTRAST and BRIGHTNESS controls for good illumination. P F
5. Switch the CCU to the CAMERA-ON position and uncap the lens. P F
6. Perform white balance. P F
a. Place the white balance chart on easel stand or light box. P F
b. Position the camera 6 to 8 feet directly in front of the chart. P F
c. Focus the lens for a sharp image and frame the chart, using the Zoom and Focus
controls while observing the viewfinder.
P F
d. Adjust the CCU WHITE level for 100 IRE while observing the WFM. P F
7. Perform registration. P F
a. Replace the white balance chart with the registration chart. P F
b. Focus the lens for a sharp image and frame the chart, using the Zoom and Focus
controls while observing the viewfinder.
P F
c. Adjust the CCU WHITE level for 90 IRE while observing the WFM. P F
d. Check for good linearity, size, and centering while observing the TV monitor in the
MONOCHROME mode.
P F
8. Perform color balance. P F
a. Replace the registration chart with the logarithmic reflectance (gray scale) chart. P F
b. Focus the camera lens for a sharp image and frame the chart, using the Zoom and
Focus control while observing the viewfinder.
P F
c. Adjust the CCU WHITE level for 100 IRE and BLACK level for 7.5 IRE while
observing the WFM.
P F
d. Adjust the R and B BLACK level controls on the CCU for minimum color SC while
observing the WFM and vectorscope.
P F
e. Adjust the R and B GAIN controls individually on the CCU for minimum color SC
while observing the WFM and vectorscope.
P F
f. Turn on the CCU R GAMMA switch and adjust the GAMMA control to cancel out
the SC on the crossover chip in the middle of the gray scale reflectance chart.
