SET UP A TRANSMITTER FOR BROADCAST OPERATION ON A TACTICAL MISSION
113-575-2002
Conditions: In a tactical environment, set up a transmitter for broadcast operation. Given a transmitter,
antenna, audio and video cables, sync generator, audio video test signal generator(s), ground rods,
rubber matting, electronic equipment tool kit, manufacturers' manuals, and another person for safety.
Standards: The standards are met when the transmitter is prepared for broadcast operation with no
technical difficulties existing.
Performance Measures Results
WARNING: For safety, always work on transmitter with another person present.
1. Inspect all equipment for accountability and serviceability. P F
2. Install the antenna. P F
a. Establish site security. P F
b. Install the antenna mast following safety requirements. P F
c. Visually inspect the antenna configuration. P F
d. Install ground rods and connect all cables. P F
3. Set up the transmitter. P F
a. Unpack the transmitter and connect all cables. P F
b. Install ground rods. P F
c. Conduct PMCS on the power generator (see task 113-601-3029). P F
d. Operations check all rack-mounted equipment. P F
4. Close electrical interlocks to allow the transmitter to broadcast on air. P F
NOTE: Opening an interlock removes high voltage from the transmitter's finals (plate and
filament).
5. Close the main circuit breaker to apply AC power to the transmitter and initiate the up
cycle.
P F
6. After approximately 5 minutes warm-up time, verify that all lamps illuminate. P F
a. The AC lamp indicates the main circuit breaker is ON, applying AC power to the
up-converter.
P F
b. The filament lamp indicates the presence of AC power applied to the filament
transformer.
P F
c. The high voltage lamp indicates the presence of AC power applied to the high
voltage transformer.
P F
d. On the up-converter, the transmit lamp illuminates when the up-cycle is complete
and the system is in transmit status.
P F
7. Set up operations. P F
a. Camouflage all equipment and vehicles. P F
b. Follow site setup plan for proper site configuration. P F
c. Conduct safety, security, and operations brief. P F
