INSTALL A TELEVISION (TV) SYSTEM
113-575-1001
Conditions: In a tactical or garrison environment, given equipment racks, VTRs, TV receivers or
monitors, cameras, microphones, audio amplifiers, speakers, DAs, sync generator, VTSG, ATSG, WFM,
vectorscope, multimeter with test leads, video tapes, video and audio cables, connectors, step ladder,
electronic equipment tool kit, soldering tool kit (light to medium duty), crimping tools, cable ties, cable
labels or markers, bench stock, system block diagrams, and manufacturers' manuals.
Standards: The standards are met when the TV system is installed and operational with no deficiencies.
Performance Measures Results
1. Review system layout and block diagrams. P F
2. Install equipment racks. P F
3. Run and connect station earth ground to each rack. P F
4. Rack mount equipment. P F
5. Install AC power to racks. P F
a. Mount AC power cable and strips vertically in rear of racks where possible. P F
b. Designate location of power panel and breaker on the strip. P F
c. Run power cables from the power panel to the equipment or racks through
appropriate conduit.
P F
6. Prepare, install, and connect cables and wiring. P F
a. Dress cables in bundles to the right or left side consistently in all racks. P F
b. Install cables so that they do not restrict installation or removal of equipment
located in the rack. Allow cables ample loop to provide for rail-mounted
equipment removal or service.
P F
c. Where possible, install cable bundles on the opposite side to the power strip
located in the rack. Do not strap signal cables to power or control cables. Allow a
minimum distance of two inches between signal and power cables.
P F
d. Do not allow cables to hang from connectors without proper strain relief; secure
cables to cable hangers or restraints in equipment racks.
P F
e. Tie wrap cable bundles at 6- to 12-inch intervals. P F
NOTE: Do not install tie wraps in cable troughs; separate cables with trough dividers.
f. Whenever feasible, in racks having cables with several types of signals (for
example, video, audio, sync, and control), group individual signals into sub-
bundles and then combine the sub-bundles.
P F
g. Do not use barrel connectors on cables in permanent installations. P F
h. Support rigid transmission lines with spring hangers on vertical runs up a tower
and place suspension hangers in the horizontal runs to accommodate for
expansion and contraction.
P F
7. Label all cables. P F
a. Designate all cables with heat shrink labels for new installations and self-
laminating labels for existing installations with the labels printed in the following
format:
P F
(1) Cable (number). P F
(2) From: (source equipment). P F
(3) To: (destination equipment). P F
