CONDUCT PMCS OF A POWER GENERATOR
113-601-3029
Conditions: In a tactical or garrison environment, given a power generator with equipment and
accessories, DA Form 2404, electronic equipment tool kit, soda and water solution, wire brush, dry cloth,
hearing protection, mechanical replacement parts (such as fan belts), battery charger, and petroleum, oil
and lubrication (POL) access.
Standards: The standards are met when the generator is serviced, free of defects, and fully mission
capable.
Performance Measures Results
1. Visually inspect the generator. P F
a. Look for fuel and oil leaks. P F
b. Look for loose, damaged, or missing parts, and unusual wear or deterioration; for
example, inspect the muffler for leaks, rust, and damage.
P F
c. Check all controls and instrument panel gauges for serviceability, loose wire
connections, condensation cloudiness, and broken meter glass.
P F
2. Check and top off all fluids. P F
a. Check fuel level and add fuel as needed. P F
b. Check oil level and add oil if below the ADD level. P F
c. Check radiator level and add coolant as needed. P F
3. Check the tension and condition of fan belts and replace as needed. P F
4. Check the fire extinguisher for an unbroken seal, valid expiration date, and meter
indication. Direct exchange (DX) or turn-in for service as needed.
P F
5. Check for proper ground connection; replace missing grounding equipment. P F
6. Check the battery. P F
a. Remove corrosion buildup from the terminals, using a soda and water solution
with a wire brush.
P F
WARNING: Be careful not to short the wire brush across the terminals or from the
positive terminal to ground.
b. Tighten the load terminal wires. P F
c. Check the electrolyte level and fill if necessary. P F
d. Replace the battery if cracked. P F
e. Check the battery charging ammeter for plus side of scale, a reading above zero.
Charge or replace the battery as necessary.
P F
7. Start and check engine operation. P F
CAUTION: Wear appropriate hearing protection.
a. Check oil pressure gauge for 20 to 60 pounds per square inch (PSI). P F
b. Check the air cleaner restriction indicator; a reading in the red indicates a missing
or unserviceable air cleaner.
P F
c. Adjust the frequency meter for 60 Hz. P F
d. Check the voltage rheostat for 120 VAC. Rotate voltage selector switch to monitor
the voltage of each phase combination; adjust if necessary.
P F
e. Switch ON the circuit breaker to provide voltage to the equipment being powered. P F
f. Set the generator transfer switch to the generator being used. P F
g. Check the ammeter for the applied load. Rotate the ammeter phase selector
switch to monitor the load applied to each phase; do not exceed 100 percent.
P F
h. Inspect the generator for unusual noises, leaks, and loose parts. P F
8. Stop the generator. P F
