MAINTAIN AN ANTENNA SYSTEM
113-575-3054
Conditions: Maintain an antenna system to ensure peak reception in a tactical or garrison environment,
outdoors during daylight, but not during thunderstorms, high winds, or extreme temperatures. Given an
antenna system (antenna, mast, modulators/demodulators, receivers, and RF transmission lines with
cable fittings), ground wire and rod, field strength meter, electronic equipment tool kit, cable crimpers, dry
cloth, DD Form 314, DA Form 2404, DA Form 2407, DA Pam 738-750, manufacturers' manuals, and one
assistant.
Standards: The standards are met when the antenna is secure and maintained at maximum signal
strength.
Performance Measures Results
DANGER: DO NOT PERFORM THIS TASK OUTDOORS DURING THUNDERSTORMS
DUE TO EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SHOCK HAZARD.
1. Disconnect the lead-in cable from the antenna at the RF modulator or demodulator;
connect the field strength meter.
P F
2. Adjust the antenna for strongest signal. P F
a. Turn ON the meter and select desired channel. P F
b. Rotate the antenna for maximum signal strength indication on the meter. P F
3. Secure the mast mount and antenna. P F
4. Connect the lead-in cable from the antenna. P F
5. Verify the attachment of the standoffs and the lead-in cable through the standoffs. P F
6. Verify the physical attachment of the ground wire and rod. P F
7. Inspect the cables to and from the RF modulators and splitters for serviceability; clean
with a dry cloth if necessary.
P F
8. Replace a defective cable, if necessary. P F
a. Remove the defective cable. P F
b. Measure and cut a new cable to the required length. P F
NOTE: Excess cable coiled at the antenna or behind receivers can cause signal loss.
c. Install RF connectors on the cable ends. P F
d. Install the replacement cable using appropriate mounting hardware to prevent it
from rubbing against the building in the wind.
P F
9. Turn ON the TV receiver and check reception. P F
10. Rotate the antenna for peak reception if snow or signal distortion persists. P F
11. Securely fasten the mount to lock the receiving antenna in place. P F
12. Test operate destination receivers in the entire antenna distribution system. Tune or
program receivers for peak reception as necessary.
P F
13. Complete the necessary maintenance forms. P F
a. Annotate service performed on DD Form 314. P F
b. Document uncorrected faults and parts required on DA Form 2404; date and initial
the form if no problem exists.
P F
c. Initiate a DA Form 2407 for required corrective maintenance. P F
