color burst
The portion of the composite signal comprising a few cycles, a sine wave of the chrominance subcarrier
frequency which is used to establish a reference for demodulating the chrominance signal.
color subcarrier
In color systems, this is the carrier signal whose modulation sidebands are added to the monochrome
signals to convey color information.
composite blanking
The complete television blanking signal of both line rate and field rate-blanking signal.
composite picture signal
The signal which results from combining a blanket picture signal with the sync signal.
composite sync
The line and field rate synchronizing pulses (including the field equalizing pulses) when combined
together, from the composite sync signal.
continuity
A continuous path for the flow of current in an electric circuit.
contrast
The range of light and dark value in a picture, or the ratio between the maximum and minimum brightness
value.
convergence
In color television, the meeting or crossing of the three electron beams at the shadow mask.
converter
A device to convert one or more television channels.
corona
A faint glow adjacent to the surface of an electrical conductor at high voltage.
crosstalk
An undesired transfer of signal between circuits..
DC Restorer
Clamps one point of the video waveform to a fixed DC level to ensure that the display will not move
vertically with changes in signal amplitude or average picture level.
decibel (dB)
The standard unit for expressing transmission gain or loss and relative power levels.
decibel(s) (dBd)
Gain relative to a dipole.
decibel(s) (dBi)
Gain over an isotropic antenna.
decibel(s) (dBm)
Decibel, with reference (compared) to a power of 1 milliwatt and with load impedance of 600 ohms.
Refers to the strength of a signal. If a signal level is exactly 1mW, its level is 0 dBm.
