Table V-3. Magnaphone 2020P Peripheral Devices
NOTE: A soft carrying case and a hard transit case are available as options for
Magnaphones configured with umbrella antennas.
g. Transit Cases. The magnaphone may be packaged in a single, foam-lined, sturdy transit case
that provides optimum protection. A convenient lightweight carrying case, made of durable nylon, is
available for the umbrella configuration. It has a flip-up top to allow ample room for the umbrella antenna
and a shoulder harness for maximum portability.
h. Site Selection. The Magnaphone can function in a variety of locations and terrain and is durable
enough to withstand even the most extreme environments. The site chosen, however, should be relatively
flat and must have an unobstructed view of the satellite selected.
(1) To aim the antenna, the operator must have knowledge of the Magnaphone's approximate
geographic position. The azimuth and elevation angle charts can be used to obtain aiming angles for any
geographical area. Use the compass provided to determine the approximate position of the satellite
selected and align the Magnaphone's antenna with the satellite.
(2) Consult the elevation angle chart to ensure that the antenna has an unobstructed view of the
satellite at the position selected.
(3) When selecting a satellite, keep in mind that the greater the elevation angle (the higher up in the
sky the satellite is), the stronger the signal will be.
i. Specifications. Meets or exceeds all requirements and recommendations for a Class 1 terminal
specified in INMARSAT Technical Requirements Document, Standard-A Ship Earth Station, Issue 3,
