STP 11-25R13-SM-TG
T - 24
(f) All patients suspected of contamination with radioactive material should be taken to a medical
facility where appropriate medical evaluation and treatment may be obtained at the earliest practical time.
(9) Within 24 hours of a fire, explosion, injury, or incident involving instruments or devices
containing radioactive material, the installation shall notify COMMANDER, US ARMY MATERIAL
DEVELOPMENT AND READINESS COMMAND, ATTN: DRCSF-P, 5001 EISENHOWER AVENUE,
ALEXANDRIA, VA 22333 and DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY DAPE-HRS, WASHINGTON, DC 20310,
telephonically of circumstances and actions taken. The notification has been determined exempt from
reports control as defined in AR 335-15. Additional reporting requirements are contained in AR 385-40.
(10) The radiation protection standards of AR 40-14 shall be followed for the control of occupational
radiation exposure. These precautions shall include the following as a minimum:
(a) The accumulated dose equivalent of radiation to the whole body, head and trunk, active blood-
forming organs, gonads, or lens of eye, will not exceed 1.25 rems in any calendar quarter nor 5 rems in
any one calendar year.
(b) The accumulated dose equivalent of radiation to the skin of the whole body (other than hands
and forearms), cornea of the eye, and bone will not exceed 7.50 rems in any calendar quarter nor 30
rems in any one calendar year.
(c) The accumulated dose equivalent of radiation to the hands and wrists or the feet and ankles will
not exceed 18.7 rems in any calendar quarter nor 75 rems in any one calendar year.
(d) The accumulated dose equivalent of radiation to the forearms will not exceed 10 rems in any
calendar quarter nor 30 rems in any one calendar year.
(e) The accumulated dose equivalent of radiation to the thyroid, other organs, tissues, and organ
system will not exceed 5 rems in any calendar quarter nor 15 rems in any one calendar year.
(f) Individuals under 18 years of age, females known to be pregnant, and occasionally exposed
individuals will not be exposed to a whole-body dose equivalent of more than 2 millirems in any one hour,
nor 100 millirems in any seven consecutive days, nor 500 millirems in any one calendar year, nor more
than 10 percent of the values in b, c, d, and e above, for other areas of the body.
(g) Individuals over 18 years of age, but who have not yet reached their 19th birthday, may be
occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation provided they do not exceed 1.25 rems dose equivalent to
the whole body in any calendar quarter nor 3 rems in the 12 consecutive months before their 19th
birthday.
(11) Film badge supply and service will be provided in accordance with SB 11-206. Army standard,
self-indicating dosimeters are available through the Army supply system and are certified according to TB
750-242-3. Self-indicating dosimeters will not be used for routine surveillance of occupational exposures
to low level medical, dental, and veterinary X-rays. Self-indicating dosimeters may be used in addition to,
but not instead of, film badges.
(12) Radiation-surveying instruments will be maintained and calibrated at least every 90 days and
after each maintenance or each battery replacement. This 90-day interval applies to those specific
instruments used directly for health and safety monitoring of radiation sources. All other radiac
instruments will be calibrated in accordance with TB 43-180, or to the intervals determined by the
installation calibration coordinator, as applicable.
