T-25. Flammable Material.
Flammable liquids, gases, and solids will not be stored in bulk quantity in the maintenance facility or
area. The quantity of flammable liquids, gases, and solids stored within the facility shall be kept to the
very minimum required for immediate use and safe efficient operation. Approval of local fire prevention
personnel is required.
T-26. Noise.
Protection against the effect of occupational noise exposure will be provided to technicians when the
sound level exceeds 85 dBa, as stated in TB MED 501. Administrative or engineering controls will be
used to reduce the sound level to within the permissible level. Personnel working in noise-hazardous
areas as defined in TB MED 501 will receive replacement and periodic audiometric evaluations. Also,
these personnel will be fitted, under medical supervision, with hearing protective devices and instructed in
their care and use. Warning placards will be properly posted in noise hazard areas indicating hearing
protection required.
T-27. Cleaning Solvents.
Cleaning solvents for electrical equipment should be carefully chosen. An acceptable solvent is
trichlorotrifluoroethane. Highly toxic and/or highly flammable cleaning solvents, such as carbon
tetrachloride, trichlorethylene or benzene that require special ventilation, storage, and control procedures,
shall not be used.
T-28. Blowers.
Use only rubber or insulating hose in airlines for blowing out equipment. Use the minimum air
pressure that will do the job to avoid damage to the insulation and injury to personnel. In no case shall
the pressure exceed 30 PSI. Be sure that the air is free from water. Do not turn compressed air on you
or others, because it can cause serious injury. Refer to Occupational Safety and Health Standard
1910.242(b).
Section V. RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL
T-29. General.
The guidance contained in this technical bulletin, as well as any special instructions contained in the
end item equipment technical manuals, will be followed to insure safe handling of the radioactive item and
the safety of personnel involved in the handling process. All personnel engaged in the operation and
maintenance of equipment containing radioactive components are to be made aware of the information
contained in this technical bulletin and in TB 43-0116.
T-30. Definitions.
NOTE: For the purpose of this bulletin, the following definitions apply:
a. Radiation-Controlled Areas. Any area whose access or occupancy is controlled for the purpose
of protection of individuals for exposure to ionizing radiation and radioactive materials.
b. Unrestricted Storage Area. Storage areas where radiation levels do not exceed the limits
stated below:
(1) A radiation level where an individual will not receive a radiation dose to the whole body in
excess of 0.5 rem (roentgen equivalent man) in any one calendar year.
