A-10. Tinning.
Place the wire on the soldering iron tip near the insulation. Place solder on top of the wire and move
wire toward the cut end. This will draw the solder down the wire giving an even tinning action. Tin
quickly to avoid insulation damage. Figure A-13 shows acceptable and unacceptable stranded wire
tinning.
a. An alternative method of tinning wires is to dip wire in liquid flux to the desired depth, then dip in
molten solder bath to the correct tinning depth.
b. Lightly clean the pretinned leads with the lead-cleaning tool until the tinned surface is bright and
shiny. Clean the untinned leads in the same manner prior to tinning as shown in Figure A-14.
