PERFORM A VISUAL INFORMATION (VI) SITE SURVEY
113-631-8005
Conditions: In a tactical or garrison environment, given a date, time, general location, basic requirement,
and POC for the remote.
Standards: The standards are met when the site survey is conducted with electrical power requirements,
necessary phone lines, and required equipment and personnel noted.
Performance Measures Results
1. Contact the site POC to coordinate the site survey. P F
2. Conduct the site survey at least two weeks before the broadcast or production. P F
3. Determine and make a list of the equipment and personnel required to facilitate the
remote.
P F
4. Determine the exact location for equipment setup. P F
5. Locate nearby AC outlets and determine if electrical output capacity is suitable for
requirements (voltage, hertz, and phase).
P F
NOTE: Ideally, the equipment should be close to the outlets to avoid using long extension
cords that can introduce AC hum.
6. Locate the nearest telephone circuit box. P F
7. Request two temporary class A lines (with phone numbers) from the supporting Signal
company at least two weeks before the remote.
P F
NOTE: One line will feed the broadcast back to the studio and the other is for off-air
communication between the studio and remote site. Have the phone lines installed at least
one day before the remote.
8. Accompany Signal company personnel to the remote site and pinpoint the exact
location to install the lines on the scheduled day of the phone line installation.
P F
9. Test both lines by connecting a telephone and calling the studio on each line to check
line quality.
P F
Evaluation Guidance: Score the soldier a GO if all steps are passed (P). Score the soldier a NO-GO if
any step is failed (F). If the soldier fails any step, show what was done wrong and how to do it correctly.
Have the soldier practice until he can correctly perform the task.
