ESTABLISH AN AUDIO-VIDEO LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN)

Conditions: Given an audio-video system (such as an AudioVAULT) with a LAN requirement, associated
software and manuals, one or more audio storage disk drives, host server PC with data, storage hard
drive, VGA monitor, keyboard, mouse or touch screen, workstation PC (with monitor, keyboard, and
mouse), 50-ohm coaxial Ethernet cables, 50-ohm BNC connectors, 50-ohm terminators, audio and digital
data cabling and interfaces to studio equipment, cable wraps, cable labels, electronic equipment tool kit,
equipment racks, wire management systems, punch-down blocks, patch panels, and CAD drawings.
Standards: The standards are met when the LAN is established and documented.

1. Develop a project plan. P F
2. Install equipment racks, wire management systems, punch-down blocks, and patch
panels.

5. Test and certify cable runs. P F

a. Inventory all network resources and identify component details (serial number,
noun nomenclature, and model).

b. Identify and document server and workstation system configurations. P F
c. Identify and document network-cabling segments. P F
d. Design graphical layout of the network. P F
Evaluation Guidance: Score the soldier a GO if all steps are passed (P). Score the soldier a NO-GO if
any step is failed (F). If the soldier fails any step, show what was done wrong and how to do it correctly.
Have the soldier practice until he can correctly perform the task.
