MAINTAIN AN AUDIO-VIDEO LAN

Conditions: Given an audio-video LAN system (such as AudioVAULT), associated software and
manuals, one or more audio storage disk drives, host server PC with data, storage hard drive, VGA
monitor, keyboard, mouse or touch screen, workstation PC (with monitor, keyboard, and mouse), 50-ohm
coaxial Ethernet cables, 50-ohm BNC connectors, 50-ohm terminators, audio and digital data cabling and
interfaces to studio equipment, electronic equipment tool kit, CAD drawings, and network documentation.
Standards: The standards are met when circuit failures are isolated and repaired to keep the LAN up and
running error free.
Performance Measures Results
1. Determine if the problem is a network or hardware problem. P F
2. Troubleshoot and correct circuit failures. P F
a. Clean up and reinstall improper installations. P F
b. Eliminate electrical interference from other sources. P F
c. Repair any loose connectors, broken wires, and electrical shorts. P F
d. Isolate system from network. P F
3. Test the cable system drops. P F
4. Install upgrades and/or new software. P F
5. Update network documentation to keep current on configuration. P F
Evaluation Guidance: Score the soldier a GO if all steps are passed (P). Score the soldier a NO-GO if
any step is failed (F). If the soldier fails any step, show what was done wrong and how to do it correctly.
Have the soldier practice until he can correctly perform the task.
