CINEMA DSP
Since the Dolby Surround and DTS systems were
originally designed for use in movie theaters, their effect
is best felt in a theater ha_ing many speakers designed for
acoustic ett_ct_. Since home conditions, sudl as room
size, wall materiah number of speakers, and so on, can
differ so widely, it is inevitable that there are difl)rences in
the sound heard. Based on a wealth of actually measured
data. Yamaha CINEMA DSP uses Yanmha original sound
tield technology to combine Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby
Digital and DTS systems to provide the audiovisual
experience of a movie theater in the listening room of your
own hon/e.
Component video signal
With tile comllonent video signal system, the video signal
is separated into the Y signal l()r the hmlinance and the Pt_
and PR signals for the chromimmce. Color can be
reproduced more ti6thfldly with this system because each
of these signals is independent. The component signal is
also called the "color diftErence signal" because the
luminance signal is subtracted thorn the color signal. A
monitor with component input jacks is required in order m
output component signals.
Composite video signal
With tile comllosite video signal systmm the video signal
is composed of throe basic elements of a video picture:
color, brightness and synchronization data. A composite
video jack on a video component transmits these three
elements combined.
Dolby Digital
Dolby Digilal is a digital surround sound system that gives
you completely independent multi-channel audio. With 3
fl'ont channels (front L/R and center), and 2 surround
stereo channels. Dolby Digital provides 5 hall-range audio
channels. With an additional channel especially lk_rbass
eflEcts, called LFE (Low Frequency Effect), the system
has a total of 5. I-channels (LFE is counted as 0.1
channel). By using 2-channel stereo for the surround
speakers, more accurate moving sound eftEcts and
surround sound environnlent are possible than with Dolby
Surronnd. The wide dynamic range from nlaxinlum to
minimum volume reproduced by the 5 fifll-range channels
and the plvcise sound orientation generated using digital
sound processing provide listeners with unpl_cedented
excitement and iealism. With INs unit, any sound
environment lhoil/monaural up to a 5.1-channel
configuration can be tYeely selected for your enjoynlent.
Dolby Pro Logic II
Dolhy Pro Logic II is an inlproved technique used to
decode vast nmnbers of existing Dolby Surround sources.
This new technology enables a discrete 5-channel
playback wifll 2 t?'ont lelt and right channels. 1 center
channel, and 2 surround leB and right channels instead of
only 1 surround channel for conventional Pro Logic
technology. Thetv are three modes available: "Music
mode" tBr music sources. "Movie nlode" l_r nlovie
sources and "Game mode" t_)r game sources.
Dolby Surround
Dolby Surround uses a 4-channel analog recording system
to reproduce realistic and dynamic sonnd eft_cts: 2 l¥ont
left and right channels (stereo), a center channel for dialog
(monaural), and a surround channel for special sound
eft)cts (monaural). The surround channel reproduces
sound within a narrow frequency range. Dolby Surround ix
widely used with nearly all video tapes and laser discs.
and in many TV and cable broadcasts as well. The Dolby
Pro Logic decoder built into this unit employs a digital
signal processing system that automatically stabilizes the
volmne on each channel to enhance moving sound efl)cts
and directionality.
DTS Digital Surround
DTS digital surround WaS developed to replace the analog
soundtracks of movies with a 5.1 =channel digital sound
track, and is now rapidly gaining popularity in movie
thealers around the world. DTS. Inc. has developed a
home theater system so that you can enjoy lhe depth of
sound and natural spatial representation of DTS digital
surround in your home. This system produces practically
distortion4ree 5.l-channel sound (technically, left, right
and center channels, 2 surround dlannels, plus an LFE 0.1
channel as a subwootl:l; tk_r a total of 5.1=channels).
