4. Open the Terminal application (e.g. HyperTerminal) on your Windows™ PC. Create a
new connection with the following settings:
Connect Port: COM1
Baudrate: 115200 (bits per second)
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None
5. Insert the “Boot CD” (created in Stage 3) into the USB CD-ROM drive.
6. Power up the Mediant 1000.
7. On the Terminal application, the BIOS phase starts and the Linux installation begins.
The installation uncompresses the kernel, loads it and its drivers, and then starts the
interactive installation.
Note: After the BIOS phase, some badly formatted text may appear on the screen.
8. The first interactive screen should be 'Choose a Language'. Select the language you
wish to use.

9. When prompted for the installation media, remove the “Boot CD” and insert the
first installation disk and select 'CDROM' as your installation media. From this point
on, you should proceed with the screen instructions, as instructed by your Linux
TM
distributor.
