The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures can be found on page 48.
The Audi S7 Sportback has a V8 4.0 TFSI power
unit that features the new innovative Audi
cylinder on demand. It ensures that during partial
load operation, only four of the eight cylinders
are used – without you noticing the difference.
The engine runs just as smoothly and powerfully,
but using less fuel and emitting less CO₂.
We call this mode of operation “intelligent
performance”. Audi cylinder on demand closes
only specific cylinders: two in each cylinder bank.
This allows the engine to run impressively
smoothly, even on half its cylinders. The system
will only kick in under certain conditions: when
revs are between 960 and 3,500, the engine
temperature is at least 40 °C, and you are
travelling in at least third gear. Then, if the full
power of eight cylinders is not needed, the Audi
valvelift system will close the intake and outlet
valves and switch off the injection and ignition of
the relevant cylinders. This means no air is taken
in, no fuel is injected, and no exhaust gas emitted
– resulting in a noticeable improvement in
consumption and emission values.
In addition, the V8 4.0 TFSI engine features the
frugal start-stop system and of course meets the
EU5 emission standard. The power unit works
with the Audi valvelift system to generate a
higher torque – whilst consuming less. The eight-
cylinder engine’s immediate responsiveness and
exceptional power delivery across its entire speed
range assure a magnificent sporty driving style.
Its 309 kW accelerate the S7 Sportback at a
maximum torque of 550 Nm from 0 to 100 km/h
in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically
regulated at 250 km/h.
