We don’t take the task of building an Audi lightly – yet
lightness is a top priority. You just have to know how to
dispense with things: with superfluous materials, with excess
weight, with outdated design principles. What began with the
revolutionary Audi Space Frame (ASF®) now has an impact on
the entire production process. Existing forms and materials
are questioned. Manufacturing processes are optimised.
Components are carefully weighed up in every sense so that
we can build even lighter vehicles that make more sparing
use of resources. Such as the wheel hub pictured here, whose
chamfered edges have shaved 200 grams off its weight.
Because the less an Audi weighs, the more innovations we can
fit in. For more comfort and safety. For enhanced efficiency
and dynamic performance that produces lower CO₂ emissions
– for example through Audi cylinder on demand, the start-
