26 tiptronic
A high-performance vehicle needs an appropriate
transmission. Which is why the Audi RS 7 Sportback
has an automatic transmission that stands out
due to fast gear changes and a high degree of
efficiency.
The 8-speed tiptronic transmission enables
spontaneous, highly flexible gear changes. Its
wheel set concept with four wheel sets requires
only five gear change elements, of which two are
opened in each gear. Three multi-plate clutches
and two brakes work with a high degree of
efficiency – or, put another way: with particularly
short gear change times.
The gear changes occur within the optimal speed
range – this reduces power flow losses and allows
you to move with agility. The Dynamic Shift
Program (DSP) determines the suitable gear
changing point itself, and adapts to your individual
driving style. The DSP accesses route data in the
standard MMI navigation plus with MMI touch.
This way it can include corners in its shifting
strategy and avoid unnecessary gear changing.
Along with the Drive mode (D), the additional
Sport program (S) offers a sportier driving style
using gear change points that are set later. You
can influence manual gear changes at any time
with the shift paddles on the steering wheel or by
briefly touching the gear lever, for example for
more dynamic performance or to drop gears for
enhanced engine braking on winding, hilly roads.
With its cleverly designed gear changing
mechanism and the large transmission-ratio
spread, the tiptronic helps to reduce consumption
and emission values and combines comfort while
changing gear and driving off with impressive
driving dynamics.
When does the tiptronic change
to the next gear?
At just the right time.
