Assistance systems, Technology
Assistance Systems
adaptive cruise control
automatic speed and distance regulation; working with-
in the system’s limits, it helps to detect and maintain
the distance by braking and accelerating
Audi side assist
lane change assistant, working within the system’s
limits and from a vehicle speed of 30 km/h, the system
uses radar technology to monitor the area to the side
behind the vehicle as it is driving along and informs the
driver via an LED display in the exterior mirror as soon as
the system detects another vehicle in the adjacent lane.
Hold assist
holds the vehicle stationary for unlimited periods after
stopping, including on uphill and downhill gradients.
The system is activated by push-button and allows the
driver to drive away easily and comfortably without
having to operated the handbrake manually
Parking system plus
acoustic and visual parking aid for front and rear with
display on MMI screen
Parking system plus with reversing camera
acoustic and visual parking aid for front and rear, image
of area behind the vehicle shown on the MMI display,
with two dynamic display modes for the calculated path,
steer-angle dependent, includes help lines and guide-
lines; reversing camera concealed in the tailgate handle
strip. (Can only be ordered in combination with an MMI
navigation system)
Cruise control system
at speeds of 30 km/h and above, the system keeps the
set speed constant, provided that engine power and
engine braking effect permit it; also features active
braking intervention, e.g. when driving downhill;
operated via separate steering column stalk; set speed
displayed in the driver information system
Suspension systems/brakes
Audi drive select
influences the accelerator characteristics, the exhaust
flap control, the transmission mode and the steering
torque of servotronic by means of the comfort, auto and
dynamic modes; additional individual mode if combined
with an MMI navigation system. The optional dynamic
steering, sports suspension plus with Dynamic Ride
Control and quattro® with sport differential can also be
configured using drive select
Dynamic steering
increases the drive dynamics and the driving comfort
by dynamically regulating the steering according to the
driving situation. This could be when cornering, when
changing lanes or when parking. As well as adapting the
steering effort (such as for servotronic), the system also
adapts the steering angle (steering ratio). Furthermore
the vehicle stabilisation is supported by the system by
means of ESP.
RS 5 sports suspension
with a dynamically tuned spring/damper combination
and adapted elasto-kinematics; five-link lightweight
front suspension with virtual steering axis, includes
suspension brace; trapezoidal-link rear axle with
independent wheel suspension; tubular anti-roll bars
front and rear; twin-tube gas-filled shock absorbers and
coil springs, auxiliary rebound springs; flexibly mounted
rear subframe, front subframe rigidly fixed to bodyworkt
Sports suspension plus with Dynamic Ride control DRC
can be set to three modes; with variable damper charac-
teristics; five-link lightweight front suspension with vir-
tual steering axis, includes suspension brace; trapezoi-
dal-link rear axle with independent suspension; tubular
stabilisers at front and rear; single-tube gas-filled shock
absorbers and coilsprings, auxiliary rebound springs;
control range of the Dynamic Ride Control can be set to
three different modes: comfort, auto, dynamic
Braking system
18-inch high-performance braking system with anti-lock
brakes (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution
(EBD), Electronic Stabilization Programme (ESP) with
brake assist; aluminium tandem brake booster, brake
discs ventilated at front and rear, perforated and on
floating mountings
Brake calipers
high-gloss black paint finish
Electromechanical parking brake
includes parking brake function when stationary, drive-
off assistance function through automatic release when
driving away and emergency braking function whilst
driving through action on all 4 wheels
Ceramic brakes
19-inch high-performance braking system with carbon
fibre-reinforced ceramic brake discs at front, specially
developed cooling ducts in the ventilated and perforated
brake discs; front brake calipers painted in high-gloss
anthracite, featuring the “Audi ceramic” logo“
Technology/Safety
Bodywork
galvanised (fully galvanised in areas at risk from corro-
sion), unitary construction, welded to the floor pan,
front and rear areas with defined crumple zones, alu-
minium front wings (12 year warranty against rust per-
foration)
Airbags
Full-size airbags,
for driver and front passenger, adaptive with seat
position recognition
Front side airbags,
thorax/pelvis airbags
Head airbag system
extends over the entire length of the side windows
and protects the front and rear passenger in the
event of a side impactl
Integral head restraint system
in the event of a rear-end collision, the design of the
seats stabilises the upper torso and provides better sup-
port for the head. This increases the level of protection
and reduces the risk of a whiplash injury
Steering column lock
electric
Instrument cluster
with black dials, red needles, dynamic ready-check
feature and RS 5 logo in the rev counter; with adjustable
lighting; electronic speedometer with odometer and
trip odometer, rev counter, clock, coolant temperature
display and fuel gauge
Safety steering column
includes a shunt mechanism with damping function to
supplement the protection offered by the seat belts and
airbags
Seat belts
three-point inertia reel seat belts for all four seats; with
belt force limiters, belt tensioners and seat-belt remind-
er function at front
Warning triangle
with bracket on the inside of the tailgate
First-aid kit
in the storage compartment in the rear centre armrest
Traction control (ASR),
for improved traction, reduces spinning of the driving
wheels
Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)
on surfaces with varying levels of grip, this start-off as-
sistant automatically brakes the drive wheels on the sur-
face that is too slippery, thereby ensuring smooth, pow-
erful progress; operates at vehicle speeds up to
approx.100 km/h

Electronic Stabilization Programme (ESP)
with sports mode, two-stage deactivation; networks the
ABS, EBD, ASR and EDL with its own sensors and com-
pares the driving data with reference data; provides
better stability by targeted braking of each wheel at any
speed and intervention in the engine management
servotronic
speed-sensitive power steering
S tronic
7-speed dual-clutch transmission with electrohydraulic
operation, facilitates very short gearshift times and
gearshifting with virtually no interruption in the power
flow; can be operated via the paddle switches behind the
steering wheel or the selector lever; in automatic mode,
the gearshift characteristics can be changed via Audi
drive select
quattro®
permanent all-wheel drive with torque distributed selec-
tively to each wheel, self-locking crown gear centre dif-
ferential; driving forces distributed to each individual
wheel depending on the driving situation for precisely
controllable, sporty handling.
quattro® with sport differential
the electronically controlled sport differential distrib-
utes the drive forces variably between the rear wheels. It
also ensures better direct steering characteristics and,
thanks to less steering effort, more agile handling.
Electronic limiting of the top speed at
280 km/h
Recuperation
by increasing the generator voltage, kinetic energy is
converted into usable electrical energy when the vehicle
is coasting and braking. This energy is used to assist the
generator during subsequent acceleration, thereby
achieving fuel savings of up to 3%
