Brake to
accelerate.
hybrid
Extend the lead with every use of the brakes. Invest braking energy in range. Stored first in a lithium-
ion battery. Then put to sustainable use. Experience efficient mobility. Purely on electric power if you
so wish. Up to 3 kilometres at a constant 60 km/h. And even up to 100 km/h for a short period.
Completely emission-free when coasting. When the vehicle is in overrun, the combustion engine is
switched off and only the force of its kinetic energy is used. Even at speeds of up to 160 km/h. This
can be additionally felt by high-torque dynamics when boosting. Just as soon as the combustion
engine and electric motor work together. For faster acceleration, higher flexibility and greater driving
enjoyment.
The fuel consumption and CO₂ emission figures as well as the efficiency class can be found on page 96.

hybrid
>>> Combustion engine
Among the hybrid engine versions in the new Audi A8, the 2.0 litre TFSI engine is at once
both efficient and powerful. The 155 kW engine has increased torque, direct fuel injection,
supercharging and the Audi valvelift system. In conjunction with the electric motor, which is
also a high-torque unit, the dynamism produced is the equal of any other drive type.
>>> Electric motor
Traction motor, alternator and starter in one: the compact and lightweight 40 kW electric
motor in the new Audi A8 hybrid and A8 L hybrid. It is connected to the crankshaft via a
separating clutch, thus ensuring that the available power is transmitted directly. This parallel
hybrid concept
delivers convincing drive-off performance and acceleration in just about
every driving situation. Together, the combustion engine and electric motor deliver an output
of 180 kW.
>>> Lithium-ion battery (including battery cooling)
The lithium-ion battery in the new Audi A8 hybrid and A8 L hybrid allows you to drive purely
on electricity for a certain period. It determines the range and output of the hybrid drive,
and its high energy density means significantly more power. Its low weight and space-saving
design are also bound to impress. Including active battery cooling, which improves the
availability of the hybrid system and prolongs its operating life.
