Poor surface measures
Buffer units I and II
The buffer units protect the engine and
gearbox from stone impact and large surface
ground-contact. They also serve as
soundproofing.
The buffer units are reinforced on the outside
and inside with fibreglass mats. Buffer unit 1
has an additional large surface area
reinforcing section with a high fibreglass
content in the region of the oil sump.

The buffer units are not designed as
underride protection/impact protection
and do not protect the drive if lowered
onto sharp objects. They cannot
support the weight of the vehicle in
such cases.
