quattro®
permanent all-wheel drive with self-locking centre
differential and wheel-selective torque distribution;
distributes the driving forces depending on the driving
situation to each individual wheel for precisely
controlled handling
quattro® with sports differential
The electronically regulated sports differential
distributes variable amounts of driving force to each
rear wheel and ensures outstanding acceleration
performance in corners and stabilises the vehicle’s
response to load change; also improves direct steering
characteristics and provides more agile handling due
to the lower steering effort required.
Recuperation
Increasing the generator voltage converts kinetic
energy into usable electrical energy when the vehicle
is coasting or braking. This energy is used to assist the
generator during subsequent acceleration, saving up
to 3 % fuel.
Start-stop system
helps to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by
switching off the engine in stationary phases, e.g. at
traffic lights. The start process is initiated as soon as
the foot brake is released for the vehicle to move off
again. Can be deactivated using a switch at any time.
Seat belt reminder
for the driver and front-passenger seats; an acoustic
and visual warning signal reminds you to fasten your
seat belt.

networks the ABS, EBD, ASR and EDL with its own
sensors and compares the driving data with reference
data; provides better stability through targeted
braking of individual wheels and intervention in the
engine management system
ESC with electronic axle-differential lock
integrated in ESC; modifies driving force by means
of targeted braking actions depending on the driving
situation; when cornering the electronic cross-axle
lock ensures smooth and precise handling with
no understeer; improved traction and dynamic
performance when cornering. (For models with

Electromechanical power steering
maintenance-free rack & pinion steering with speed-
dependent power steering; precise steering feel at
high speeds, excellent assistance when parking; active
countersteering provides steering assistance to the
driver for enhanced vehicle stability
multitronic®
the multitronic generation of continuously variable
transmissions, featuring dynamic gear control
program (DCP) and sport program; 8 different gears
can be selected in manual mode; hydraulically
controlled multi-plate clutch. (For models with front-

S tronic®
The 7-speed dual clutch transmission with
electrohydraulic actuation facilitates shorter gearshift
times and gearshifting with hardly any perceptible
break in propulsive power: can be operated via the
shift paddles behind the steering wheel or the gear
lever knob; in automatic mode the driver can choose
between two programs D (normal) and S (sports).

Integrated head restraint system
In the event of a rear-end collision, the design of the
seat restrains the upper torso and supports the head
at an early stage, thereby increasing safety and
reducing the danger of whiplash.
