2.2 Partition RAID groups
A RAID group may have several Terabytes of total data capacity because of the size of the included
drives. Partitions allow you to break up large RAID groups into smaller, more manageable groups
without using individual lower capacity RAID groups.
Most host systems can only address 2 TB per
LUN. Partitioning increases storage efficiency by
providing more LUNs without using lower
capacity RAID groups. Partitioning allows the
creation of multiple logical volumes. Use the
FastStream SC 5300 ExpressNAV interface and
follow its directions to divide the default one
partition into subpartitions.
Setting up partitions
When you initially create RAID groups or add
RAID groups, you may partition large RAID
volumes into smaller, more manageable sizes.
1 If you are not already in the ExpressNAV
interface, type the IP address of your appliance,
as found in Use the ExpressNAV interface
on
page 27, in a standard browser, click Enter
Here and type in your user name and
password.
2 Click on the Manage button.

3 Click the Create RAID Groups button
4 Click Next
5 Choose Custom Setup.
6 Type in the RAID protection level you would like
7 Type in a name for the RAID group
8 Click Next
9 Choose an interleave size from the drop-down
menu.
CAUTIONCAUTION
Changing the default interleave size may
degrade performance.
10 Choose the drives which you want to add to this
RAID group
11 Click Next
12 If you want to regulate the partition size, type in
the partition size (in Gigabyte, Megabyte or
blocks) and click Create
If you do not wish to choose a partition size, or
you want to include the rest of your storage in
this partition, choose the All Unallocated
button.
13 Click Next
14 The Setup Verification page appears. If you
agree with the partition information presented,
click Commit
15 A warning box appears. If you wish to continue
with the partitioning, click on Yes. The
configuration completes and the Health and
Status Monitor page appears.
If you wish to change or cancel partitioning,
click on No. the Partition Page appears.
Modifying partitions
CAUTIONCAUTION
Modifying partitions causes loss of
existing data.
1 If you are not already in the ExpressNAV
