Setup guide
■ On CentOS
chkconfig yum-updatesd off
/etc/init.d/yum-updatesd stop
Install device drivers
After the Linux operating system is installed, perform the following procedure to install the required device
drivers for your hardware. Check the system requirements at http://www.autodesk.com/flare-systemrequirements
for qualified drivers.
To install hardware drivers:
1 In a terminal run init 3 to shut down the graphical environment and run in text mode.
2 Install the NVIDIA graphics driver:
■ Back up your X server configuration file with cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup.
■ From the directory where the driver installer is, run the installer with: sh <installer_file>.
■ Read and accept the license agreement and accept the default answers to ALL the other questions
asked by the installation script.
WARNING Answer NO (default) at the end of the install process when you are asked if you wish to
update the xorg.conf file. Answering Yes results in undesirable changes to xorg.conf. These changes
will prevent Flare from running properly. If you answered Yes by mistake, restore the original xorg.conf
file from the backup you created before installing the driver.
3 Optional: If your Flare workstation is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2, or CentOS 5.2 and you
require audio, perform the following tasks to update the ALSA sound driver. You do not need to perform
these tasks if your workstation is running version 5.3 of the Linux operating system.
■ From the directory where installer is, uninstall the existing version of the driver: rpm -e
--allmatches --nodeps alsa-lib-1.0.14-1.rc4.el5
■ Install the new driver version: rpm -ivh alsa-lib-1.0.17-1.el5.x86_64.rpm. See the README
file included in the ALSA driver tar file for additional details.
4 Optional: If you plan to use a Wacom pen tablet, update the Wacom tablet driver. See the documentation
on the Linux Wacom project Web site for instructions on compiling and installing the pen tablet driver
on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 or CentOS 5: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/linuxwacom/in-
dex.php?title=Distribution_Specific_Linuxwacom_Installation.
5 Install any other third party drivers required by your hardware. Consult your third party hardware
documentation for details.
6 Restart your workstation with the command: reboot
Install the Autodesk software
1 Test your Linux environment (page 68).
2 Prepare the installation media (page 31)
