Following info has been copied from IBM's® documentation:
You can set IBM® Lotus Notes® Traveler to use SMS (Short Message Service
)
mode for Auto
Sync, which may greatly increase a device's battery life.
Note: This topic does not apply to Apple devices.
By default, Lotus Notes Traveler maintains a TCP connection between a device and server that
allows both to stay in sync with each other. Depending on several factors (such as network
provider, NAT timeouts, and device characteristics
)
maintaining this TCP connection can burden
the device's battery, whereas using SMS mode for Auto Sync may decrease the burden on the
device's battery and increase the amount of time between battery recharges.
Attention: Do not perform these steps unless you know that you have an unlimited SMS plan;
otherwise this may result in a very expensive phone bill .
On the device, go into the Lotus Notes Traveler settings and choose Auto Sync.
Change the Network setting from TCP to SMS e-mail address.
Enter your specific SMS e-mail binding. This is usually your phone number, followed by the @
symbol, and then a carrier-specific domain, for example:
9195555309@messaging.sprintpcs.com or 9195552143@txt.att.net
Click Done.
After following these steps, Lotus Notes Traveler stops maintaining a constant TCP
connection to the server, and starts using SMS to notify the device of server-side changes.
These SMS messages are received silently by the Lotus Notes Traveler software on the
device so they do not interfere with your use of SMS messaging.
Sms4Domino may be used out-of-the-box as the mail-to-sms gateway.
The mail messages generated by Lotus Traveler and addressed to the SMS gateway deviate slightly
from standard Lotus Notes mail messages: some common Notes items are missing from the mail
message. There is no
form, posteddate
or
subject
item. During the configuration of the filter settings
in the mail interface document you should take this into account. Example whitelist filter settings are
provided in the interface configuration document.
