3. Conclusion: The reserve power of a battery with a 150 reserve minutes rating is sufficient to satisfy the
continuousloaddemandplacedontheinverterforamaximumofaboutonehour.(45amps/hourampdraw
=1hour).
Note:
Whentheinverterwillbeoperatingapplianceswithhighcontinuousloadratingsforextendedperiods,it
isnotadvisabletopowertheinverterwiththesamebatteryusedtopoweryourcarortruck.Ifthecaror
truckbatteryisutilizedfor an extendedperiod, it ispossible that
thebattery voltage may bedrained to
thepointwherethebatteryhasinsufficientreservepowertostartthevehicle.
It may be advisable to operate the inverter from a bank of batteries of the same type in a "parallel"
configuration. Two such batteries will generate twicethe amp/hours
of a single battery; three batteries
willgeneratethreetimestheamp/hoursandsoon.
Thetypeofbatteryyouusetopoweryourinverterisimportant.Batteriesdesignedtostartengineshave
multiplelayersofverythinplates.Theseprovideextensivesurfaceareathatwillproduceapowerfulshort
burstof electricalpower required to start combustion engines. Using an inverter wi ll cause a battery to
discharge and recharge often. We recommend that you use a different typeof battery that is designed
specifically for this type of load requirement. Deep cycle (marine) batteries generally have the highest
reserve
ratings. They are designed with thicker plates making them capable of withstanding repeated
completedrainsofpowerandrecharging.Ifyoudonotha veadeepcyclebatterywerecommendthatyou
runtheengineofyourvehiclewhenoperatingtheinverter.
ConnectionCableGauges
Whenconnectingtheinvertertothepowersourceusethethickestwireavailable,intheshortestlengthpractical.
Iftheinverterandthebatteryarepositionedwithinfourfeetofeachother,aminimumof#4gaugewireshould
be used to make the connections. When the distancebetween them
is fourto six f eet,a minimumof #2 gauge
wire is required. When separated by more than six feet, always use # 0 gauge wire. See the last page of this
manualforrecommendations.
ConnectingYourInverter
1. MakesuretheON/OFFrockerswitchlocatedonthefrontpaneloftheinverterisintheOFF(0)position.
2. Connectthecablestothepowerinputterminalsattherearoftheinverter.Makesuretomat chthenegative
(Black)terminalonthe12voltpowersourcefirst.
Thenrepeatthisprocedurewiththepositive(Red)terminal
connecting a wire to the positive terminal of the 12v volt power source. Make sure that you have a good
secureconnection,butdonotovertightenthesescrews.
Note
Looseconnectionscanresultinaseveredecreaseinvoltage,whichmaycausedamagetothewiresand
insulation.
Failuretomakeaproperconnectionbetweentheinverterandthepowersourcewillresultinreverse
polarity.Reversepolaritywillblowtheinternalfusesintheinverterandmay
causepermanentdamageto
theinverter.Damagecausedbyreversepolarityisnotcoveredunderthewarranty.
MakingtheconnectionbetweenthePositiveterminalsmaycauseasparkasaresultofcurrentflowingto
charge capacitors within the inverter. This is a normal occurrence. Due to the possi bility
of sparking,
however,it is extremelyimportantthatboth theinverterand the12volt batterybe positionedfar from
any possible source of flammable fumes or gases. Failure to heed this warning could result in fire or
explosion.
