Using CLASSIC MAIL System With WATS Lines, FX Lines, or 800 Numbers
If you have outside lines that are WATS lines, Foreign Exchange (FX) lines, or 800
numbers, do not connect these lines as access lines to the CLASSIC MAIL system. Due
to the special services that these lines often provide, they should not be used to gain
access to CLASSIC MAIL system messages. The CLASSIC MAIL system will still
answer incoming calls on these lines, even if they are not directly connected.
See the Chapter 9 sections,
“Blocking Lines For Off-Site Message Alert”, and “Setting
Line Configurations” for information regarding the use of these special line types
with your CLASSIC MAIL system.
Using the CLASSIC MAIL System With Centrex
If your outside lines are Centrex service lines, you can connect these lines directly
to the CLASSIC MAIL system. See Figure 1B. Use the installation instructions in
Chapter 3, “Interposing the CLASSIC MAIL System between your Outside Lines and
Control Unit,” substituting the Centrex lines for normal outside lines.
Using the CLASSIC MAIL System Behind a PBX
If your Merlin is installed behind a PBX telephone system, you can connect the
analog telephone lines from the PBX directly to the CLASSIC MAIL system.
