FAX IMAGING
83
dde-only=on
This will generate a new log file mstotifin <vsifax>\spool\logs containing information related to these
conversions. If this appears to be working and the imaging program is launched and closed properly, you can go to
Add-on formatters
and follow the procedure to confirm the printer setting and the currentpcl.pcl conversion.
Tip
The most frequent message in mstotif log is "Timeout" which happens when the imaging program gets stuck on a
pop-up message and cannot complete the printing. The "hide-window=off" option will allow you to see the
program on the desktop and detect such problems.
Faxing Microsoft Office files
If you are using an add-on viewer to image Microsoft Office documents and your document is generated from a
newer version of a Microsoft Office product, your document may not format properly. In this case, install Microsoft
Office on the fax server. Check the formatters.lst file for the file type(s) that are not formatting correctly and, if
they exist, comment them out by putting a pound sign (#) at the beginning of the line that contains them. After you
save your changes to the formatters.lst file, you must stop and restart the VSI-FAX server. VSI-FAX will then
use the Office products and the MSTOTIF formatter to image the files.
Important
When using MS Office conversions, the VSI-FAX Fax Server service (vrsched.exe) should be running under a
user, not under a SYSTEM account.
If using Microsoft Office 2003 SP2 and running vrsched.exe under a SYSTEM account, the Office 2003 program
unexpectedly quits with an unrecoverable error (the Mso.dll fails and a DW20.exe component appears in the list of
Windows processes from Windows Task Manager that reports the Office 2003's program failure). The workaround
is to run the VSI-FAX Fax Server service (i.e. vrsched.exe) under a user.
If when imaging Microsoft Office files like Powerpoint, Word or Excel files you encounter a failure with the add-on
viewers as shown below:
c:\test\Sample.doc: mstotif: vfxview failed
the workaround is also to run the VSI-FAX Fax Server service (i.e. vrsched.exe) under a user, not under a
SYSTEM account.
