Changing your Fax on Demand Connector information
On occasion, you may need to change your Fax on Demand Connector Account ID, password, or hostname. This
information is stored in your vsisrv.ini file. You can change the hostname and the Account ID from this file but
not the password (which is encrypted in this file):
1. Use a text editor to edit the VSIFAX\lib\vsisrv.ini file. Find the [DEVICE:FoDC] section of the file. Edit
the following fields as needed:
• hostname : The hostname or IP address of the Esker on Demand server, from your Esker Account
Manager
• accountID : The Esker on Demand ID you received from your Esker Account Manager.
• dial-convert : When set ON , converts the dialstring according to the rules found in dialcvt.lst.
Note
The other fields in the section are advanced fields for Technical Support only. Save your changes
and close the file.
2. Restart the VSI-FAX scheduler by typing the command vfxsched restart.
3. To change the password, you need to edit the general properties of the FoDC device in VSI-FAX Server
Administration or open a command shell and issue the vfxadmin config -a -e -i FODC DEVICE
password mypasswordxxx command.
Sending a fax using Fax on Demand
Once you have the Fax on Demand Connector configured and enabled, you can send faxes using Fax on Demand.
To send a fax using command lines: create and submit a job, and specify the destination/queue as FoDC, which was
automatically created during the Fax on Demand Connector installation. For example:
vfx -n +6085551212 -d FoDC test.txt
You can also send faxes thru Fax on Demand from VSI-FAX LanFax Windows Client. As a prerequisite, set FoDC as
the default device either at the server's level or for the client only (open VSI-FAX LanFax Windows Client application,
select Tools > Options from the main window, open the Outgoing tab and set the Queue field to FoDC).
Then send your fax either by selecting Fax > New from the application toolbar or by printing the file on the VSI-FAX
LanFax Windows Client Printer from the source application.
Troubleshooting
How you should format destination fax numbers when submitting faxes via Esker on Demand depends on the
telephone system of the country where the Fax on Demand server you are communicating with is located.
By default, the FoDC FIM communicates with a server located in the United States. If you are faxing from the
United States, you should have no problem. Enter American local fax numbers to send faxes within the United
States, and use international fax numbers to send faxes outside the United States.
If you are faxing from France, the Fax on Demand server whose hostname you have been provided with is
located in France. You should enter French local fax numbers to send faxes within the France, and use
international fax numbers to send faxes outside France.
In all cases, we strongly recommend to you always use internationalized fax numbers as it will guarantee
that your fax is properly sent whatever the Fax on Demand device used.
Canceling a fax sent through Fax on Demand
You can cancel a fax job sent to the Esker on Demand server using the vfxcancel command. For more information
on the vfxcancel command options, see Command Reference in the Reference Addendum
documentation. You
