Setup Basic Settings – Network Configuration Page Description
The following table provides a description of the fields within the Setup Basic
Settings – Network Configuration page.
Field Name Description
LAN IP
Address
The base IP address of the private home LAN and the
WebWizard IP address. Your gateway cable modem assigns
private IP addresses to your attached computers by its internal
dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server
MAC
Address
The MAC address for the WAN. The factory assigned MAC
address for the WAN is also referred to as the WLAN Data
MAC address unless a spoofed MAC address is used. (See
Spoofed MAC Address later in this table)
WAN IP
Address
The public IP address assigned to your cable modem by your
ISP. The WAN will be assigned a public IP address by your
cable service provider. The WAN IP address will be shared by
all the PCs in your private local area network to access the
Internet
Duration
The length of time your WAN IP address is valid. This length
of time renews when this duration expires
Expires The date and time your WAN IP address expires

Some ISPs require this information for authentication and will
supply it to you
When setting a static IP address, you must enter the IP
address, subnet mask, and default gateway before the static
IP address will become operational

Address
Some ISPs require the MAC address of the network interface
card (NIC) in your computer for authentication. When installing
the gateway cable modem, you can enter your computer MAC
address here to allow you to connect to your ISP. If a Spoofed
MAC address is used, the gateway will use the Spoofed MAC
address to obtain the public WAN IP address in place of using
the WLAN Data MAC address assigned at the factory
