This chapter lists the key components and optional accessories for the server system.
2.1 Upgrading CPU and CPU heatsink The ASUS RS162-E4/RX4 supports Intel® Xeon® Quad-core 5400 / 5300 series and Dual-core 5200 / 5100 series processor. 5 4 1 2 3 • • If you install only one CPU, install the CPU to the CPU1 socket only. The system will not boot and the CPU warning LED will light up if a single CPU is installed on the CPU2 socket. We recommend to install CPUs with the same frequency.
2.2 Upgrading system memory The motherboard comes with twelve (12) Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) FullyBuffered Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMM) slots.
2.3 Upgrading hard disk drives The system supports four hot-swap SATAII/SAS hard disk drives. 1 2 2 We recommend that you install identical drives of the same model and capacity for RAID configuration. Order P/N SAS HDD 90-S000H0050 90-S000H0040 90-S000H0030 90-S000H0020 SATAII HDD 90-S000H5500T 90-S000H5400 90-S000H5300 90-S000H5000 90-S000H5200 2-4 Description 450GB, 3.5” SAS HDD / ASUS 300GB, 3.5” SAS HDD / ASUS 146GB, 3.5” SAS HDD / ASUS 73GB, 3.5” SAS HDD / ASUS 1TB, 3.
2.4 Upgrading riser card You may replace the default riser card with the optional dual PCIe x8 riser card.
2.5 Installing ASUS RAID card The ASUS RAID card allows users to create RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 from SAS hard disk drives connected to the SAS connectors on the motherboard.
2.6 Installing ASUS Server Management Board ASUS Server Management Board is an Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) 2.0-compliant board that allows users to monitor, control and manage a remote server from the local or central server in local area network (LAN). 30 - 45O ASMB3-SOL PLUS (V3) • • • Monitor the running status of major components via LAN or Serial Port, such as CPU and memory utilization, storage capacity and networking transfer rate.
ASMB3-iKVM • • • Remote real-time access to servers with full control by keyboard, video monitor and mouse (KVM) of a single local computer from anywhere at any time. In addition, KVM function is based on BIOS-level access, therefore, even the server OS is down, the KVM module can still work to provide around-theclock remote monitor and diagnosis through GUI (Web-based Graphical User Interface).
2.7 Upgrading power supply unit 700W 1+1 hot-swap redundant power supply eliminate system and application downtime by redundancy power backup Order P/N 90-S3GPW1000 Description RPSU, 700W Redundant Power Supply Module Remove the dummy power supply module before installing the second redundant power supply.
