Safety Precautions The following safety precautions will increase the life of your ASUS 1225/ R252 Series. Follow all precautions and instructions. Except as described in this manual, refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Do not use damaged power cords, accessories, or other peripherals. Do not use strong solvents such as thinners, benzene, or other chemicals on or near the surface. Disconnect the AC power before cleaning.
SAFE TEMP: This ASUS 1225/ R252 Series should only be used in environments with ambient temperatures between 5°C (41°F) and 35° C (95°F). INPUT RATING: Refer to the rating label on the bottom of your ASUS 1225/R252 Series and be sure that your power adapter complies with the rating. DO NOT carry or cover a ASUS 1225/R252 Series that is powered ON with any materials that will reduce air circulation such as a carrying bag.
Charging Your Batteries If you intend to use battery power, be sure to fully charge your battery pack before going on long trips. Remember that the power adapter charges the battery pack as long as it is plugged into the computer and an AC power source. Be aware that it takes much longer to charge the battery pack when your ASUS 1225/R252 Series is in use. Remember to fully charge the battery (8 hours or more) before first use and whenever it is depleted to prolong battery life.

1 Camera Cover and Zooming Switch (on selected models) The camera cover switch allows you to open and close the protective camera cover. Slide the switch to the left to close the camera cover. Slide the switch to the middle to open the camera cover. Slide the switch to the right to zoom in or zoom out the camera view. 2 Microphone (Built-in) 3 Built-in Camera 4 Camera Indicator The camera indicator shows when the built-in camera is in use.
8 Keyboard The keyboard differs for each territory. 9 Touchpad and Buttons The touchpad and its buttons provides the same functions as that of a desktop mouse. 10 Status Indicators Power Indicator The power indicator lights when the ASUS 1225/R252 Series is turned ON and blinks slowly when the ASUS 1225/R252 Series is in the Suspend-to-RAM (Sleep) mode. This indicator is OFF when the ASUS 1225/R252 Series is turned OFF.
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Indicator The hard disk drive indicator blinks when data is written to or read from the disk drive. Wireless/Bluetooth Indicator This is only applicable on models with built-in wireless LAN/ Bluetooth (on selected models). When the built-in wireless LAN/Bluetooth is enabled, this indicator lights. Capital Lock Indicator When this indicator lights up, it indicates that the keyboard is in capital lock mode.
Bottom Side Refer to the diagram below to identify the components on this side of your ASUS 1225/R252 Series. The bottom side may vary in appearance depending on model. 1 2 1 2 The bottom of your ASUS 1225/R252 Series can get very hot. Be careful when handling your ASUS 1225/R252 Series while it is in operation or recently been in operation. High temperatures are normal during charging or operation. DO NOT use on soft surfaces such as sofas or beds, which may block the vents.

Right Side Refer to the diagram below to identify the components on this side of your ASUS 1225/R252 Series. 1 1-8 2 3 4 5 6 1 Headphone Output Jack This combo jack can be used to connect your ASUS 1225/R252 Series’ audio out signal to amplified speakers or headphones. Plug in a headphone and follow the screen instruction to switch the audio jack function. 2 Microphone Jack This microphone jack is used to connect the microphone used for Skype, voice narrations, or simple audio recordings.
Left Side Refer to the diagram below to identify the components on this side of your ASUS 1225/R252 Series. 1 1 2 3 4 5 Power (DC) Input The supplied power adapter converts AC power to DC power for use with this jack. Power supplied through this jack supplies power to your ASUS 1225/R252 Series and charges the internal battery pack. To prevent damage to your ASUS 1225/R252 Series and battery pack, always use the supplied power adapter. THE ADAPTER MAY BECOME WARM TO HOT WHEN IN USE.
Keyboard Usage Special Function Keys The following defines the colored hot keys on your ASUS 1225/R252 Series’s keyboard. The colored commands can only be accessed by first pressing and holding the function key while pressing a key with a colored command. Some function icons appear in the Notification area after activation. Sleep (F1): Places your ASUS 1225/R252 Series in sleep mode (Suspend-to-RAM).
Num Lk (Insert): Toggles the numeric keypad (number lock) ON and OFF. Allows use of a larger portion of the keyboard for number entering. Scr Lk (Delete): Toggles the “Scroll Lock” ON and OFF. Allows you to use a larger portion of the keyboard for cell navigation. Stop (↑): Stops the media file playback. Play/Pause (↓): Begins or pauses the media file playback. Back (←): Goes back or return to the previous song/movie chapter during media file playback.
Touchpad Usage Multi-finger gesture input (on selected models) Two-finger zooming in/out - Moving two fingertips apart or together on the touchpad to zoom in or zoom out. This is convenient when viewing photos or reading documents. Zoom in Zoom out Two-finger rotating- Fix one fingertip on the touchpad and make an arc with the other to rotate the photo or the document you are viewing. You can make a clockwise or counterclockwise rotation based on your needs.
Two-finger scrolling up/down or left/right- Use two fingertips to slide up/down or left/right on the touchpad to scroll a window up/ down or left/right. If your display window includes several subwindows, move the pointer on that pane before scrolling. Three-finger page up/down- Use three fingers to move horizontally on the touchpad to swipe pages. Swipe from left to the right to view the next page or right to the left to return to the previous pages.

Powering on your ASUS 1225/ R252 Series These are only quick instructions for using your ASUS 1225/R252 Series. 1. Install the battery pack 2. Connect the AC power adapter 2 2 3. 1 Turn ON your ASUS 1225/R252 Series Damage may occur if you use a different adapter to power your ASUS 1225/R252 Series. You may damage both your battery pack(s) and your ASUS 1225/R252 Series with a faulty AC-DC adapter.
First-time Startup For the first time you start your ASUS 1225/R252 Series, the Windows wizard will launch automatically and lead you through setting up your preferences and some basic information. Follow the wizard instructions to finish the initialization: 1. Select the language you use. Click Next to continue. 2. Select you system settings by specifying the region you are in, the time zone you are in, and the keyboard type you use. Click Next to continue. 3.
2-4 5. Read the end user license agreement and check the two boxs before I accept the license terms. Click Next to continue. 6. Click Use recommended settings to get the latest important updates. 7. Specify the time zone you are in and the local date and time. Click Next to continue. 8. Connect to a wireless network and click Next to continue, or click Skip to set up the wireless connection later.
9. Select the network's location. Click Next to continue. 10. The initialization is finished. Desktop There are several shortcuts on the desktop. Double-click them to launch the corresponding applications and enter the specified folders. Some applications would form minimized icons in the Notification area. The actual Desktop screen may vary according to different models.
Network Connection Configuring a wireless network connection 1. Click the wireless network icon with an orange star Windows® Notification area. in the If the wireless network icon with an orange star does not show in the Notification area, activate the wireless LAN function by pressing + ( + ) before configuring a wireless network connection. 2. Select the wireless access point you want to connect to from the list and click Connect to build the connection.
Local Area Network To establish a wired network, follow the instructions below: Using a dynamic IP / PPPoE network connection: 1. Click the network icon with a yellow warning triangle in the Windows® Notification area and select Open Network and Sharing Center. 2. Click Change adapter settings in the left blue pane. 3. Right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties.
4. Click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click Properties. 5. Click Obtain an IP address automatically and click OK. (Continue the following steps if using PPPoE) 6. 2-8 Return to the Network and Sharing Center and then click Set up a new connection or network.
7. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next. 8. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next. 9. Enter your User name and, Password, and Connection name. Click Connect. 10. Click Close to finish the configuration. 11. Click the network icon in the taskbar and click the connection you just created. 12. Enter your user name and password. Click Connect to connect to the Internet.

Enter the IP address, Subnet mask and Gateway from your service provider. If needed, enter the preferred DNS Server address and alternative address. After entering all the related values, click OK to build the network connection. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if you have problems connecting to the network.

ASUS Update The ASUS Update is a utility that allows you to manage, save, and update your ASUS 1225/R252 Series BIOS in Windows® environment. The ASUS Update utility allows you to: • Save the current BIOS file • Download the latest BIOS file from the Internet • Update the BIOS from an updated BIOS file • Update the BIOS directly from the Internet, and • View the BIOS version information. This utility is pre-loaded in your ASUS 1225/R252 Series.
3. 4. 5. Select the ASUS FTP site nearest you to avoid network traffic, or click Auto Select. Click Next. From the FTP site, select the desired BIOS version and click Next. Follow the screen instructions to complete the update process. The ASUS Update utility is capable of updating itself through the Internet. Always update the utility to avail all its features. Updating the BIOS through a BIOS file To update the BIOS through a BIOS file: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Bluetooth Connection (on selected models) Bluetooth technology eliminates the need for cables for connecting Bluetooth-enabled devices. Examples of Bluetooth-enabled devices may be notebook PCs, Desktop PCs, mobile phones, and PDAs. To connect to a Bluetooth-enabled device: 1. Press + repeatedly until Bluetooth ON or WLAN & Bluetooth ON is shown. 3-4 2. From Control Panel, go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and then click Change adapter settings in the left blue pane. 3.
4. Click Add a device to look for new devices. 5. Select a Bluetooth-enabled device from the list and click Next. 6. Enter the Bluetooth security code into your device and start pairing. 7. The paired relationship is successfully built. Click Close to finish the setting.
Super Hybrid Engine Super Hybrid Engine offers different power modes. The assigned instant key toggles power savings between various power saving modes. The power saving modes control many aspects of your ASUS 1225/R252 Series to maximize performance versus battery time. Applying or removing the power adapter will automatically switch the system between AC mode and battery mode. The selected mode is shown on the display. Eee Docking Eee Docking contains multiple useful applications. The Eee Docking tool bar is at the top of the desktop. Accesss Sharing Experience Tools • The applications in Eee Docking may vary depending on models. • The names of the applications in Eee Docking are subject to change without notice. Access ASUS @Vibe ASUS @Vibe allows you to enjoy online entertainment contents including Radio, Live TV and Games, etc. The ASUS @Vibe service contents differ for each territory.
Sharing YouCam / E-Cam (on selected models) YouCam / E-Cam provides interesting effects and useful add-ons for your webcam. Syncables The syncables desktop application makes it easier than ever to keep all your photos, music, videos, documents, bookmarks, and more in sync and up to date across all your computers. Experience Font Resizer Font Resizer allows you to adjust the font/text size on your ASUS 1225/ R252 Series screen.
Docking Setting Docking Setting allows you to configure the appearance and the position of the Eee Docking tool bar. Boingo (on selected models) Boingo gives you easy access to global Wi-Fi services with a special price via the Boingo utility. Use one account at more than 100,000 hotspots around the world, including airports, hotels, cafes and restaurants. Instant On (on selected models) Zero-wait system restarting gets you immediately back to work and play with saved system status.
Smart Camera (on selected models) ASUS Smart Camera provides an easy way to zoom in or zoom out your built-in camera view. Slide the Smart Camera switch above the built-in camera to the right end to show the camera zoom indicator. Slide the switch repeatedly to switch the camera zoom level from 1x to 4x. You can also adjust the zoom area position by dragging the red square on the screen.
Microsoft® Office Starter 2010 Notebook users can enjoy Microsoft Office Starter 2010 that includes Word Starter 2010 and Excel Starter 2010 for basic word processing and spreadsheets. Do the following instructions for Office Starter 2010 firsttime start-up. 1. 2. Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft Office 2010. In the Microsoft Office 2010 window, click Use. 3. Click Open to continue. 4. Your ASUS 1225/R252 Series starts installing Microsoft Office Starter 2010 programs.

Read through the Microsoft Office license agreement and click Accept to agree. 7. Select a method you prefer to update Microsoft Office and click OK to continue. 8. You can now start using Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 and Microsoft Word Starter 2010.
System Recovery 4 Chapter 4: System Recovery
System Recovery (for models with Windows 7 OS only) Ensure to connect your ASUS 1225/R252 Series to the AC power adapter before using F9 recovery to avoid recovery failure. Back up the recovery files 1. Repeat the step 1—2 in the previous section. 2. Connect a USB storage device to your ASUS 1225/R252 Series and click Backup in the Recovery System dialog box to start the recovery files backup. • The size of the connected USB storage device should be equal to or larger than 16GB. • Memory cards are not supported for this function. • Please connect the storage device to USB 2.0 port.
