Stage Two:
Language Readiness
The Stage Two learner begins to understand that objects have names and
that actions have words to express them. The learner is not asked to identify
objects, but simply to absorb information.
Assessing Stage Two Skills
The Stage Two assessment activities introduce language. Objects and actions
are presented in multiple ways to engage the learner. Nouns and Verbs
activities convey word meanings through language-rich rhymes using photos,
drawings, and symbols. Attributes activities use language to describe objects.
Stage Two assessment activities include:
3 choice of Nouns, Verbs, or Attributes
3 engaging graphics, videos, animations, and sounds
3 object names, colors, sizes, and quantities
3 several categories: toys, clothing, vehicles, animals

Stage Three:
Emerging Language
The Stage Three learner shows an understanding of everyday language. This is the
first Stage in which the learner responds to a question based on a prompt.
Assessing Stage Three Skills
The Stage Three assessment activities ask the learner to select a specified
object from a choice of 2 or 3 targets, presented on both plain backgrounds
and in contextual scenes. The learner has three chances to select the correct
answer. Incorrect responses are handled using a systematic model that
guides the learner to the correct answer through teaching.
Stage Three assessment activities include:
3 Object, Category, and Function identification
3 three levels of representation (can the learner find the dog shown
in a photo? line drawing? symbol?)
3 Explore activities that introduce content and Assess activities
that test knowledge
3 child and adult reward choices
3 continuation of familiar content from Stage Two
