TYPE
Use this item to configure the type of the IDE device that you specify.
Configuration option s: [Not In stalled], [Auto], [CD/D V D], a n d [ARMD].
Before you attempt to configure a hard disk drive, make
sure you have the correct configuration information supplied
by the drive manufacturer . The syste m may fail to re cognize
the installed disk due to the incorrect settings.
[Auto]: Select [Auto] to automatically detect the hard disk drive. If auto-
detection is successful, the BIOS SETUP UTILITY will automati-
cally fill in the correct values for the remaining fields on this sub-
menu. The auto-detection may fail if the hard disk is too old or too
n e w . If the hard dis k w a s alre a dy f ormatted on an older syste m,
the BIOS SETUP UTILITY may detect incorre ct parameters. In those
ca se s, sele ct [User] to manually enter the IDE hard disk drive
parameters.
After entering the hard disk information into BIOS, use a disk
utility , such as FDISK, to partition a nd format the new IDE hard
disk drives. This is necessary so that you can write or read
data from the hard disk. Make sure to set the partition of the
Pri mary IDE hard disk drive s to a ctive.
[CD/DVD]: This is used f or IDE CD/DVD drive s.
[ARMD]: This is used f or IDE ARMD (ATAPI Removable Medi a Device),
such as MO.
LBA/Large Mode
Use this item to select the LBA/Large mode for a hard disk > 512 MB under
DOS and W indows; f or Netware and UNIX user, sele ct [Disa bled] to
disable the LBA/Large mode.
Block (Multi-Sector Tra n sfer)
The default value of this item is [Auto]. If this feature is enabled, it will
enhance hard disk performance by reading or writing more data during
e a ch tra n sfer.
PIO Mode
Use this item to set the PIO mode to enhance hard disk performance by
optimizing the hard disk timing.
