Identity (UPI) number. This personal identification number of 0 to 8 digits, manually entered by the
user, is used for user authentication.
Location registration
A facility whereby a portable part can be registered with a fixed part, or a cluster of fixed parts, such
that incoming calls, radio pages or messages may be routed to it. In other words, it is a process
whereby the portable part informs the fixed part that it is ready to receive incoming calls.
To receive telephone calls at different locations with the same portable part and the same phone
number, the global network must know the location of the portable part. Therefore the global network
registers the location areas of portable parts. A location area is a group of one or more cells. Typically
a location area corresponds to the coverage area of one fixed part, however, this is system dependent.
A fixed part may also have more location areas.
A location registration is carried out in the following cases:
When the portable part is switched on
When the portable part is moved into an other location area
Note:
The process that is carried out when a portable part is switched on within the coverage area of a fixed
part to which it has access rights is called attach. It notifies the fixed part that it is operative
.
On air key allocation
The capability to transform Authentication Code (AC) into User Authentication Key (UAK) using the
key allocation procedure.
Identification of portable part
The ability for the fixed part to request, and the portable part to provide, specific identification
parameters.
Service class indication/assignment
Assignment by the fixed part to the portable part of the service class and indication to the fixed part
by the portable part of the contents of its service class.
The information contained in the service class is used by the portable part to:
Gain access to the DECT system and make calls
Recognise the DECT system in order to receive calls
The information contained in the service class is used by the fixed part to:
Approve of the use of the system by the portable part
Allow certain classes of service
Recognise calls for valid portable parts in order to route calls to them
Alerting
Activates or deactivates alerting at the portable part using any appropriate indication (for instance,
ringing signal on or off).
ZAP
The ability to assign and re-program subscription data held in the portable part. The service provider
can terminate or reinstate access rights of a subscriber by means of the ‘ZAP’ or ‘Terminate access
