Off hook
The ability to indicate the action of going off-hook (for instance, to start set-up or accept a call).
On hook (full release)
The ability to indicate the action of going on-hook (for instance, to terminate a call) and fully release
the radio resource.
Dialled digits (basic)
The capability of the portable part to dial digits 0-9, *, # during and after call establishment.
Register recall
The capability of the portable part to dial the code representing the register recall or inquiry call button
after call establishment. The portable part is able to request the supplementary service ‘register recall’
or ‘inquiry call’ over the DECT interface and the ability of the DECT fixed part to transmit the request
to the local network.
Register recall means to seize a register (with dial tone) to permit input of further digits or other action.
Go to DTMF signalling (defined tone length)
The capability of the portable part to send the appropriate code instructing the fixed part or the local
exchange to go to DTMF signalling with defined tone length.
Pause (dialling pause)
The ability of the portable part to generate or indicate a dialling pause, for instance, to await further
dial tone.
Incoming call
A call received at a DECT portable part.
Authentication of portable part
The process by which the identity of a DECT portable part is checked by the DECT fixed part. This
security service allows a cordless system to authenticate a portable part and is based on a secret
authentication key stored in both the cordless system and the portable part during subscription
registration. In this way, only portable parts that have been through the subscription registration
procedure can access a cordless system.
The purpose of this service is twofold:
• For public access systems: to provide a cryptographically secure method of identifying
subscriptions for billing purposes.
• For private systems: to prevent illegal access to private base stations in order to avoid call charges
or for reasons of anonymity.
Authentication of user
The process by which the identity of a user of a DECT portable part is checked by the fixed part. For
both the operator of a cordless system and the user of a portable part it is important that they are
protected from threats like fraudulent use of network, incorrect charging, illegal use of portable part,
etc. The purpose of this service is to provide authentication of the user as opposed to just authentication
of user subscription data stored in the portable part.
This security service allows a cordless system to authenticate a user in a manner similar to the on-
line PIN verification provided by banking systems. The service is initiated at the beginning of a call,
and may be requested at any time during a call. The user of a portable part must have a User Personal
