• DECT supports very high density of cordless users. Typically up to 50,000 users per km

• DECT systems can easily be expanded to support an increasing number of users. There is no

need for frequency planning.

• DECT supports mobility during a call. The user can move in the coverage area and still make or

receive calls.

• DECT has protection against illegal use of a cordless phone via authentication procedures.

• DECT has protection against eavesdropping via an encryption algorithm.

• DECT supports an excellent speech quality.

6.1.2 DECT applications

DECT can be used in private and public areas as shown in figure 15.

DECT residential application

A home base station provides a radio link to one or more cordless phones (see figure 16). The home

base station is connected to the public telephone network via a standard wired telephone line

(analogue or ISDN). When more phones are used the home base station acts like a cordless home

switch.
