Chapter 5 Upgrade information – February 2000
The Technical Product Manual DCT1800-GAP R3 has been released due to the introduction of the
base station BS340, Cordless System Manager (CSM) for Windows and the DTU twisted pair cable set.
5.1 Base station BS340 - KRCNB 302 01/1
The BS340 could best be described as a BS330 base station with two omnidirectional external
antennas. The possibility to mount other antenna types like a high gain omnidirectional or a directional
antenna, increases the application areas for cordless systems. The BS340 is also targeted to replace
the KRCNB 201 type base stations.
The antenna pattern of the BS340 is similar to the KRCNB 201 03/n and for this reason the BS340
should be used in case the KRCNB 201 03/n base station must be replaced.
Table 12 shows the most important differences between the base stations from the replacement
viewpoint. Though the KRCNB 201 03/n base station has a different operating voltage than the BS340,
only the case when the base station is powered by an AC-adapter requires some attention.
5.1.1 KRCNB 201 03/n powered by the modular cabinet
As you know the minimum power supply voltage of the modular cabinet is 42 Vdc (low battery condition
in case of battery back-up). This means that the lowest voltage at the input pins of the base station
can be 21 Vdc. This is due to the fact that the voltage drop over the base station cable can not be
more than 50%. So, though the KRCNB 201 03/n could operate at a lower voltage, this situation could
never happen.
For a description on how to replace a KRCNB 201 03/n base station, refer to section ’Maintenance’,
chapter ’Part replacement’.
5.1.2 KRCNB 201 03/n powered by an AC-adapter
Only in case you extend the 10 m cable of the AC-adapter should you take care of the powering
voltages. This is due to the fact that the voltage can drop to 12 VDC. This voltage is enough for the
KRCNB 201 03/n but below the requirements for the BS340.
For a description on how to replace a KRCNB 201 03/n base station, refer to section ’Maintenance’,
chapter ’Part replacement’.
5.2 Cordless System Manager (CSM) for Windows
The DOS version of CSM has been replaced by the Windows version. CSM for Windows has a system
manager level and a distributor level that is protected by password. CSM for Windows not only has
