8.1 Introduction
Base station BS340 is standard equipped with two external omni-directional dipole antennas. Non-
standard antennas may enlarge the range of a BS340 base station and reduce the total number of
base stations in a cordless system. Non-standard antennas are not fixed directly onto the base station’s
antenna connectors but connected by coax cables, see figure
17. Two identical antennas must always
be connected to one base station, both covering the same area.
This application note describes an omnidirectional antenna, a directional antenna and cables that can
be used.

8.2 Indoor applications
The use of non-standard antennas for indoor applications is limited to specific situations where the
radio coverage is the most important factor. Other characteristics are, little attenuation with Line Of
Sight (LOS) propagation and a low traffic density. Examples in which non-standard antennas may be
